What turns me off to the Alliant Cashback VS…

I don't mind jumping thru all the hoops to get the 2.5% and the $50 redemption threshold doesn't bother me either. It's the fact that this card is a Visa Signature with a "hard" CL instead of a NPSL. I feel like it's a faux VS, so I just stick to using my Fidelity Rewards card. Anyone else have this problem?

For me personally the hoops to get the 2.5% and the minimum $50 redemption are a lot bigger deterrents to my considering applying for the card than than inability to temporarily exceed the card's set credit limit.

Why would it be considered "faux VS" though? Aren't all [current/new] VS not NPSL anymore?

Except that not all issuers provide the Flexible Spending Limit capability just because they're a Visa Signature tier.  While the standard VS benefits have fluctuated over the years, FSL wasn't a standard feature for all issuers, and Alliant isn't unique to that. The same applies for others who provide W/WE tiers. The 'overline' or FSL is really issuer-dependent 🤷‍♂️

It's never been a standard feature across all issuers 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, but I thought they (VISA) completely removed that as a possible "feature" for VS, about a couple of years ago. Are there still issuers that do offer NPSL for VS?

There are. Lenders like Chase, BoA, for example, still allow overline charges on VS cards AFAIK.

In my world, if I'm approaching any of my cards credit limits, I'm probably not optimizing my rewards properly. 😂

I had no idea some Visa Sigs had flexible CL as a feature.

Being as they start at $5000, anyway, that's just never been a factor for me.  If I'm putting that much on the card then I've got bigger problems.

My main issue with the Alliant card is the lack of confidence that the current rewards structure will last.

Re: What turns me off to the Alliant Cashback VS…

I've had the Alliant Visa Signature for a few years now and — aside from their constant futzing with things and all the hoops you have to jump through now to get the 2.5% — my biggest gripe is how poorly built their rewards system seems to be.

I recently redeemed my rewards and chose "deposit to savings" like I always do. A week went by, though, and still no deposit so I gave them a call. They told me I must've selected "statement credit" by accident because that's how it was being processed and that I'd get my rewards on my next statement — even though the email confirming my redemption clearly said "deposit to savings." Thankfully, after another week, an email, and another phone call, they did finally deposit the rewards to my savings account.

This is the second time I've had reward redemption issues though. The first time their website crashed before my redemption was processed and all my rewards disappeared without a trace. That time I had to really hound them and, after many calls and some tweets, an executive called me to explain that they don't know what happened or why no one else was able to help me but that they'll be crediting my rewards to my account immediately.

While I'm glad they fixed their mistake both times, I really don't like wondering if my reward redemptions will go through smoothly or if there will be problems. Especially when I don't have these issues with other cards.
