What type of credit card would make sense

For someone with my spending habits of:

33% savings

35% bills

rest on entertainment.

lets say with bills and entertainment! I spend about 24k a year.

what kind of rewards card would be most beneficial for that?

Lets ignore credit scores.. And go strictly by the most rewarding card.

Many travel cards don't worry about extra points for "bills". They are more geared towards dining and travel related expenses. And in that case that's almost all of the common ones

Can you define entertainment? Dining, movies, bars?

For bills, you can look into the Ink cards. It doesn't cover all bills, but they do give 5% back on cell, landline, internet, and cable tv and 2% on gas. And the Ink+ can transfer to travel partners and has no FTF. So it makes a good travel card.

You still need a business for that.....

Re: What type of credit card would make sense

Sounds like Citi ThankYou Preferred is for you, 2x on dining and entertainment, 1x on everything else. However there aren't many domestic flight options in the program so take a look to see if the partner airlines are what you're interested in. If not then CSP would give you what you want but there's an annual fee and idk about approval with those scores

Re: What type of credit card would make sense

A lot of people recommend Ink+ and don't mention that you need a business to qualify. While the "business" enforcement is somewhat lax (less lax now really), I wouldn't suggest lying just to get the card. It is not a personal card; it's intended for business owners.

With your 79% utilization OP, I think the last thing to worry about right now is a new card. Applying with that utilization is just going to either net a denial or a $500 limit at 24% APR, etc. There's just a time and a place for applying and this is not it.

In the spirit of answering the question for a future app, 2x on dining can be had with a Chase Sapphire Preferred, and the points can become lucrative for travel plans. Research redemption though -- not all travel plans will get you a good return. This is just an example, but you need to also make sure you'll spend enough to justify the annual fee. Amex's MR program has several cards with category bonuses, such as the Premier Rewards Gold which does groceries and dining at 2x. All told, you need to narrow it down to more than just "travel". Where do you want to go? How do you want to get there? Where do you want to stay?

I don't know why the Thankyou Preferred is even worth considering. On its own, it's at best a 2% dining/entertainment card, 1% everything else. You can redeem for travel, but with the Preferred alone, you get no boost on value by doing so, so it's still pretty weak.

That said, again, OP, I don't feel this is the time to be applying for anything.
