Hey guys, I'm trying to test my theory. Can everyone with a new discover card (opened 2014-present) answer these questions?
What were your first 3 Discover card statement balances?
Did you receive a CLI after the 3rd statement?
(I'm gathering info. for a data point)
Sure glad to help, I was approved for my Discover in September 2014 original CL $500. My first month balance was $430, second month 480, third month 470. That was before I knew about util! No auto CLI received until 8th month.![]()

Thank you!
When did you receive a user requested CLI? And at which months/how much? (excluding auto-cli)
My first user requested CLI was very recent, earlier this month (12th statement) it went from $1,400 to $2,900. I also recieved a second auto CLI a month after my first one.
Don't have my balances, got the regular cli of 500 beginning of September, like everyone else.
. It's sorta every 90 days, if you want more. I was carrying balance, think it got to over 700, still 0%, but almost paid off now.
Off topic, feeling proud. SimplyCash paid off, discover paid off this month, BCE paid off (though 0% runs out January). Just 3 cards with balances at 0% for long time (two until 2017).
Congrats, iF!
First statement: 1178/3000
Second statement: 36/3000
Third statement: 72/3000
I received a $300 (10%) CLI before the 6th statement. The intervening statements were also pretty low ($16/$51/$132).

I can save you the trouble. Usage doesn't have the impact everyone tends to assume that it has and without considering all other factors at play (i.e each person's credit profile at time of CLI) the analysis won't mean much. CLI's are primarily determined by what one's credit and income qualify for at time of consideration.
But FWIW:
@Anonymous wrote:What were your first 3 Discover card statement balances?
$1,504.24
$1,636.07
$1,599.69

Yes, $4,500 at my request.

You're gathering more than just one data point by polling like this. I.e. my post is a data point,
1) 139.00 / 3500
2) 215.84 / 3500
3) 229.70 / 5000
Got the 1500.00 increase (requested) a week or two before the third statement.
