Not always - paid off my Walmart card 3 weeks ago and still waiting for it to update. AEO Visa updated right away, but I guess Walmart is waiting until next statement to updated. Weird.

I just got a CLI from Walmart with a balance, and then paid off the balance. They have not reported either change and it's been 3 weeks. Darn!
