When is the optimal time to request CLI?

Recently opened 5 new cards and closed on a mortgage. I have 2 cards USAA and NFCU that I would like to get a CLI on but want to know a good time to do that. Don’t want to rock the boat. Lol

Had a close call, don’t want another. I’ve had these cards about 5 years for NFCU never increased and USAA about 2 years, same thing. Low limits 1k and 500.

I think it really boils down to your overall profile. This would include your utilization, loan history (if any), negatives on CRAs (if applicable), income/DTI, FICO scores, etc.

Absent from such information, it's anyone's guess OP. The only thing that is certain for both lenders is a HP for CLI requests.

Yeah I think the hard pulls are what concern me. Too many right now recently. Hoping they do it on their own but that’s just wishful thinking. Lol

Re: When is the optimal time to request CLI?

Since you mentioned acquiring 5 new accounts recently + the mortgage, I'd say it's probably best to wait at least until your new accounts have aged to some extent, anywhere from 9-12 months.

The reason being, if you were to pull the trigger sooner than that it could either yield a lower than expected CLI or a decline. Potentially, though, since you are already a Navy member, you could weigh the option on a 2nd card depending on your needs.

Are there any negatives holding your scores?

Re: When is the optimal time to request CLI?

Yeah. There is 1 30 day on a 5 year old card I’m going to contest and several 180s on a onemain from years ago. It was settled and closed. Can’t get it cleared sadly. Thanks to att, a collection that was paid and settled recently. I despise them for that foul up.

How recent is recent? If by recent, the youngest is at least 6 mo old, that would be a good start (IHMO). 5 new cards and a mortgage is a lot HP's in a short time. Like FinStar said, with out knowing the rest of your profile its hard to tell.

Good Luck!

Re: When is the optimal time to request CLI?

I’ve had USAA auto CLI on card anniversary in the past, so it may be worth running a good amount of spend through one in the months leading up. They might even be able to tell you if this is a common practice if you call.
