I currently have a nfcu rewards card with a $6k limit. My wife just got her 2nd card from nfcu last week. It will be 2 years since bk7 in December. I also have a capital one $5500 cl and a $1750 discover card and target and ollo card. Here is the kicker. Every time I use the nfcu prequalify site it says I'm only pre approved for the secured credit card. That's what I started out with and it graduated and I changed the card and now it's at 6k which they did say that was the max. So should I pull the trigger and try. I did get a car loan through capital one in November. #nfcu
When did it graduate and do you have at least 3 Full Statements?!
It graduated in august 2019. Secured with $300 in April and graduated to $2000 unsecured in august of 2019. I had the card changed to the rewards card November 2019 and asked for a cli in March of 2020 and they gave me $4000 cli.
Navy prequals are roll of dice. I would not depend on them nor take at face value. If Navy has already given you 6k in credit only 2 years out of bk, and sufficient time has passed since last increase, ie 6 months, and you want one, id risk a hp to find out. Good luck.
@Anonymous Its generally accepted that the prequals on the Navy site aren't accurate. If you call in, you can get a more accurate prequal with a customer service rep.
What credit limit did your wife receive on her second card?
The general rule is to wait for 91 days and 3 statements to apply for a second card. You should be at this point since your card graduated.
Honestly though, if the credit isn't really needed right now, it might be a good idea to be patient and apply later this year to give your new accounts time to age.
If you are eyeing the flagship, you should wait for the sub to come back first (jmo).
My wife received a small credit limit of $2100 for a rewards card she also has a cash rewards card if $2000. I also read that they have been giving out a lot lesser credit amounts do to state of everything going on. So do I really want to waste a hp on small credit line?
For a second card it does seem like enough time has passed, BUT I do agree if you have the time to wait let it for a few more months at least for things to start clearing up. What is your UTL like?!
Overall for all my cards is at 9%. the rewards card is paid in full each month. I probably use maybe $200 a month on that card since it has been increased.
@Anonymous Sounds like you are in a great spot, some people are still getting monster SL during these times but again if you can wait it a few months I would pull the trigger then but that is my 2 cents, it sounds like you would have a good shot now tbh, but ymmv as always (especially now with the panic still going on....)

I would say that the thing NFCU really focuses on more than anything is "Debt to Income" .. just my $0.02's worth.
