Isn't contacting them risky? Getting them to make a note when it might not have been a problem anyway?
Actually not. They came under heavy fire for trying to collect with the robi signing documents, and wamu didn't give all the documents for knowledge of the account. However, mine was checking, I had a beef with wamu (told them what they could do with themselves, guess it worked ), account was charged off and sent to collections with wrong amount long before buy out.
When I called about two years ago, because some very old check from wamu was in collections (but not one I owed, so got them off my case, such bad accounting), the CA claimed I owed Chase the check. Chase verified I never owed them a check, I told them about closed wamu account, they transferred me to overseas, whom tried to get in contact with US collections, whom let it go. Part of the settlement, no collection activity in my state. Back in October, thinking of opening some chase cards, called their analyst number, just said it might show up as flag for delinquency with partner agency (or something like that). Called the overseas collection department again, they had totally let it go, said I was welcome to open another checking account with Chase, admitted they had no documents, just an amount, no verification of amount owed. Said if I had problems opening credit card, agents (analysts) could call collection department to ignore any flag.
Still thought I might have to recon every time, like some posters here, but instant online approval for amazon visa. Now I pre qual, and it's not at the highes apr's. So calling and getting the scoop can change a world of hurt when apping, then later needing to recon.

I know this is OT, but is there a thread anywhere on this board air ranks, what they mean , and how you get to them? Just saw the other day I got Valued Member
There was a thread somewhere, but this forum doesn't list the ranking system, like some others. You can search for it, it's what I did. But the way they rank keeps changing, so it's a YMMV.

This is the ranks I've gone through so far.

The forum uses a set of algorithms based on multiple metrics such as number of logins, time online, number of threads read, number of posts read, number of topics started, number of posts responded to, and probably some other stuff. It's a secret sauce.
