Hi, guys.
I know that I have OCD when it comes to credit cards (as lotsof us on this forum do, I suspect).
I do, however, have a question.
I have four major credit cards, one from each of the four big networks.
Currently, I have two in my wallet for everyday carry, AMEX BCP for 6% groceries and 3% gas, and Cap One Quicksilver WEMC for 1.5% all else.
Just for security, I was thinking of carrying three of the four credit cards (in case a place does not accept AMEX and MC doesn't work for some reason), and leaving one home in case I lose the wallet.
I have also Discover IT and Chase FU VISA. I was thinking of converting the FU to Freedom, and carrying that, but maybe I should leave that as FU in the sockdrawer for my auto pays. I am not really a big fan of quarterlies.
Discover IT does not get used much, because their quarterlies are not too hot. I don't want to convert to Chrome, because it is a crappy card (2% gas and restaurants, up to $1000 cap each quarter).
I do not want another credit card.
Main spend is groceries, and everyday (doctor, veteranarian, restaurants (pay cash often), dentist, etc
What card, if any should I add to the other two in the wallet?
I would change the FU into a Freedom. I know quarterly categories can be a pain, but the rewards add up! This would give you a lot of options. I do similar and usually, only have 3 cards w/ me at any given time.
Your card optimization strategy really depends on the current quarterly category is for those cards and what your spend is like on it. I know it did for me.
Do you spend a lot on restaurants? Do any of them not take Discover?
Next month it may be completely different.
