Which card(s) would you NOT app for?

Which card(s) would you NOT app for, even if you had the score to get approved for them? I'm just curious. I'm still in the middle of my rebuild, but the more I scrutinize cards, the more I realize I'll probably never app for the CSR or Amex Platinum. I rarely travel far and I don't see this changing anytime soon, so I can't justify the annual fees (even with the sign up bonuses). Which card(s) are currently off your app list, and why? Thanks!

Re: Which card(s) would you NOT app for?

I would not apply for any card with an annual fee.

I have the scores (810-822) to app for most anything I want, but my income is low, I rarely travel, and I'm not a big enough spender to justify any annual fee cards.

I would also not app for any card from Wells Fargo, BofA, or Citi because I have longtime bad feelings toward those banks. Call it prejudice or call it preference, I just wouldn't.

Re: Which card(s) would you NOT app for?

I don't have any particular banks I wouldn't app with, I just won't waste time apping for a card that doesn't provide equal or better rewards to one I already have -- except if it's a card I can later combine limits with on another card I use and would keep after a combination.

For example: I have no need for Chase Disney, but I'd app it just to combine CLs later with a Chase card I would use.

Any card that doesn't give me free stuff for getting it.  So no Discover cards.  No Citi Diamond.  No Chase Slate.

Re: Which card(s) would you NOT app for?

To each his/her own, but I refuse to app for any card with an annual fee. I'm a wise consumer. I don't need travel rewards as I pay a low annual fee for Spirit Airline Membership. This allows me average airfare cost of $28 to $50 for each one-way flight as well as very affordable lodging. I travel quite frequently and my scores are between 825 and 840. I also save tons of money by shopping at cost-saving stores (online and in-store). I always search online for discount coupon codes when shopping and take advantage of earning cash while shopping online. Paying an annual fee for a credit card that offers rewards for designated purchases at designated merchant types during designated time periods will not work for me.

Re: Which card(s) would you NOT app for?

I woudn't apply for anything from Wells Fargo, Synchrony, or Comenity. I had negative experiences with the first two. And there's too much bizarre stuff reported here about Comenity.

A card I generally wouldn't suggest getting is Capital One's QuicksilverOne. It has an annual fee, and it's historically been difficult to upgarde into a no-fee Quicksilver. Instead, if one has "fair" credit, I'd recommend Capital One's Platinum card. It has no rewards. But it also has no fee, and people find it relatively easy to upgrade to a Quicksilver down the road. Even if it didn't upgrade, because it doesn't have a fee, it can live in the sock drawer and continue to contribute to one's history once better cards are obtained.

I'm not interested in any charge cards. I don't want to deal with the mystery of the unspoken spending limit, and I don't want to take on the fees.

And I don't want any retail cards. I don't shop at any one store frequently enough to justify them.

Re: Which card(s) would you NOT app for?

(1)  Much like others have already mentioned earlier in the thread, I will not app for anything with an annual fee.

(2)  Won't app for charge cards.

(3)  Not fond of any Chase credit cards and can't really ever see myself as wanting to app for one of their cards again in the future.

Re: Which card(s) would you NOT app for?

I don't generally worry if my score won't qualify me for a card but there's lots that I wouldn't apply for.

I pretty much won't bother with premium travel cards like Plat, CSR, or anything that has over $100 annual fee up front. The only way to come out on top with those products is to spend the way they want you to in certain specific categories, which usually don't fit my spending habits. I'm not going to buy things I normally wouldn't just to justify having a card. Often the rewards are too specific as well. The new BoA card kinda walks the line on that but I'd consider it just for the easy $405 bonus.

Other cards I wouldn't apply for... I don't know, anything that's too specific. I don't get gas cards or store cards. I'd rather use a card that lets me buy where I want and rewards me anyway. I have some travel cobranded cards but that's just because I'm scamming points to go somewhere, and I already had loyalty to some travel brands out of convenience (SkyTeam, Hilton, Wyndham).

And of course I don't apply for fee harvester cards (CreditOne) or anything that doesn't offer me some positive value in return for swipes.

Re: Which card(s) would you NOT app for?

1. Cards with low (but still over 2%) APRs and good customer service, but bad perks/rewards and nothing else to favor them. Simmons First, Iberia, etc. I can see how they work for others, but they're useless for me.

2. More sizzle than steak. Barclaycard Black/Luxury lineup. I travel and am happy to pay AFs...so long as I get value.

3. Fee-heavy subprime cards. First Premier, etc.

4. Less-than-great customer service unless there are seriously good rewards or benefits. I have Citi cards because the benefits outweigh the CS.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select
