Once he gets his first paycheck just multiply weekly gross pay times 52 and    Bam   Instant annual income figure.     

capital one does a no annual fee secured card that can graduate after about a year.    
the downsides to that card are the deposit is returned as a statement credit at graduation and they pull from all three CRAs for approvals

I would go Bank of America secured, they denied me. Secured at $500....now unsecured and $72.5k 4 years later
