This kid that I shard a few courses with in college got put in jail for credit card scams. I've heard this story third-hand, so take it with a grain of salt, but apparently he was able to purchase credit card numbers from an online database. Then he would take those numbers and create a physical card with his name and his magnetic strip. So, essentially, his credit card had your numbers.
It doesn't seem plausible, but I've heard stranger things........
