Re: Why is my credit limit so low? What are my chances of getting a prime card??

Went to 2 CUs this morning but non of them could give me an estimate of what my CL would be like. The only way is to apply. I didn't. One wanted to HP all 3, DCU just HP EQ which isn't bad because I have no inquries on there. Just want to think it over.

Went to the BoA branch over the weekend. I was inquiring about something else about my account. The banker said I was pre-approved for their CC. I asked if it is a guaranteed approval, she said yes. I didn't apply. I then called BoA today and asked if I was pre-approved for anything. They said I was approved for their Visa Signature, but couldn't tell me if it was a guaranteed approval. Only told me that "I fit the profile" they're looking for.

Does anyone know anything about these pre-approvals if your are a BoA account holder already? Are these as good as getting approved or are they just marketing as usual. I don't want another inquiry on my EX, but I can spare some on my other 2 CRAs. Should I freeze EX then apply?

Thanks for the input guys

Anytime there is a pre-approval it's not a 100% guaranteed thing. It probably means at the time they pulled your credit info, you would have been accepted based on what they could see.

Someone could have been pre-approved and then lost their job yesterday. It won't matter how great your credit was, with $0 income that pre-approval will change to a denial instantly.

The hard part is you don't know how old the info is that they have on you. If it's from a few days ago, odds are not much has changed. If that info is a few months old... well a lot can happen in a few months. YMMV of course.
