Re: Why is the BarclayCard so popular?

As others have stated, Barclays offers a lot of reward cards and perks which give people the itchy app finger lol but in all honesty if you’re going to shoot for Barclays just ensure you’re not an app spree kind of person.. Barclays hates that! Check out the threads and you'll see numerous posts about people having their cards decreased or closed because of too many inqs even after they have had the card for awhile! So, I say app for Barclays responsibly because they are very sensitive..

What about PC to Sallie Mae from Rewards MC? My $500 limit is killing me.....I would actually use the card alot more if the limit were higher. I have to pay it off mulitple times during each month.  UGH!

I'm thinking about getting a Sallie Mae since the 5% looks really good to me! But is it hassle-free to redeem the 5% into actual cash or at least statement credit? All the website says is sth.like "you can pay down your student loan with the CB". I don't have any loan to pay, just interest in real cash back!

Any card user here? Thanks

Cashback redemption for statement credit on the Sallie Mae MC is absolutely hassel free. Once you have $25 or more in credit, you can redeem it with a couple of clicks. Barclays has a great website. Everything easy to understand and easy to do.

As for the Barclay Rewards card, it gives you 2% on utilities, groceries and something else. That's not too shabby, though there are better options. The card isn't too hard to qualify though so it works out for people whom are establishing credit.

I am in agreement with Enharu.  In terms of rewards and/or cashback I find that my Barclays reward card is getting less usage with each passing day.  The primary reason could be attributed to other superior cards.  Granted, getting a 2% rewards on UTILITY is unique, I don't have much spending in this area to rate the product higher than average.

If there is one thing I have learned in the past 90 days since jumping back into the credit card rewards world, it is to never app for a card which mirrors another rewards program I already have.  A credit card should be used each and every month and when possible used to make a profit.

On a positive note I do appreciate the Barclay's free TU Fico scores and most friendly website interface.  But I also getthis from my Discover with 5% cashback on rotating category.

Yes, some of my utilities have a surcharge for using credit cards.  And those that don't have other options: 5x on Inks/Cash Plus or 2% on 2% cards (Fid Amex etc), or 3% Huntingdon Voice.

But the Rewards card is easier to get than most, and people are finding "surprise" 2% categories like CVS.

Re: Why is the BarclayCard so popular?

That CVS might be coded as a grocery store.

The local walmart for me gets 2% too, while a different walmart I tried didn't get the 2%. The first one is a super store and I guess it's coded as a grocery store, while the other one was originally a regular store (but later upgraded to a super store, guess they didn't change the coding).

FICOs: TU 775 | EQ 784 | EX 773
Amex BCE $15,000 | Discover IT $11,600 | Chase Freedom $7,000 (Visa Sig) | Citi DoubleCash $6,000 (WEMC) | Chase AARP $6,000 | Barclaycard CashForward $4,000 | Barclaycard Rewards $2,000 | Capital One Quicksilver $1,750

Sure but whether gas, grocery or drug store 2% seems a bit low.  If Barclays could match BOA's 3-2-1 without the $1500 quarterly limits I'd be all in.

After 30 days it is no longer a recon but a new app. If your scores are accurate in your siggy, you might want to give yourself a few more months.
