Will Discover give a CLI every 91 days if you don't ask?

Trying one last time to understand Discover😤😤.  I'm approaching my next 91 days in January and in the past I always initiate the CLI on the 91st day.  I'm wondering if this is the reason I get 500.00 or 200.00 increases.  Please share your experience.  Thanks!

In my experience, they will not give an auto-increase every 91 days. The auto increases seem to be more random and occur at longer time intervals.

From reading around here I havent seen anyone consistently get a CLI every 90 days unless they requested it. So thats probably s no on auto increases every 90 days. Maybe this is all Discover is comfortable giving you for whatever reason? They have been all over the place with me. $500, $1000 five or six times, $500 and recently $1500. Same income and job information so idk how the system comes up with these amounts.

I've had my Discover It card for almost 9 months and I have been successful in getting CLi every 91 days thus far (only two though).  The increases are so incredibly small, it's really insulting.  I press the luv button and a instant no, with they want to see how I handle the CLI for 500.00 that they gave me two months ago.  That's so crazy when I pay over 500.00/800.00 per month on my statement.  I just thought I would try to understand them better, but it's becoming apparent that they don't appreciate my credit profile.  I'm ok with that and I will stop using the card.    Thanks for you feedback!

I'm not sure anybody understands Discover right now. Smiley LOL Until this year, they were a very conservative lender whose auto-CLIs were completely unpredictable and whose cardholder-initiated CLIs were likewise. They were certainly not every 91 days! I've had my Discover since 1995 and I still can't figure them out.

This year it seems to be 91 days -- and for a while there it could be much LESS than 91 days -- for those who requested them. Auto CLIs still seem irregular and unpredictable. But for the moment, 91 days seems common for those who hit the LUV button. Whether the CLI amount is "insulting" or not is in the eye of the beholder.

Who knows what change of policy 2016 will bring?

Every 31 days seems to work for me most months. It didn't work last month, but then this month I got twice as much for an increase.

So, I say try once a month.

First of all it is not every 91 days but every 90 days you are eligible for a cli. With Discover they are another bank that loves heavy usage as well as heavy payments. It just depends on your usage pattern.  I have had my Discover for let me think. Hmm about 16 months at this point,. and every 90 days like clockwork i have requested and received a cli. Many times $500 but many times 1k. I just depends. I think the biggest ever was about $1800. When i got that increase they cited my excellent payment history with them and told me the average i paid each month which was about $350. or 10 times the minimum payment. So they loved it. I just got another Cli about the 3rd of December even with 50% plus usage on my Card. Basically in the 16 months. limit has risen from $2500 to $9300 with little effort. Only 1 auto cli and that was 3 months ago for $800 after i had just gotten $500 increase 3 days earlier. I say just keep using it and it will continue to grow. don't know where the Extra Day thing is coming from but for sure it is 90 days like clockwork.

It has nothing to do with you as a person. This is Discover to everyone. If your usage is not high you will not get great increases. Its just that simple. High usage and high payments means great increases. To make it easy. They want to be number 1 without any doubt. They can see whoever else you are using and don't like it one bit. and it will be reflected in your Cli but for sure if you don't ask you will not get it.

Re: Will Discover give a CLI every 91 days if you don't ask?

CLI? Without asking? From Discover?

In my experience, 90% no.

I did get one CLI without asking for it. When my account turned 1y/o, I applied for the Disco Miles and was denied. A very nice CSR explained that everything looked good but "Discover would like to see more history". Anyways, the next day I got an email congratulating me on my CLI. Went from 1,125 to 1,600. Wasn't much but it made my rejection not sting so bad. Smiley Happy

But if you really want a decent CLI, gotta ask.

p.s. Who am I kidding. I really wanted that cardSmiley Sad

Re: Will Discover give a CLI every 91 days if you don't ask?

I joined the Discover IT family February 2013 at a $1K credit limit. Discover gave me a $5K CLI February 2014, without my asking, and with a hard pull (which I didn't know about until I got a copy of my annual credit report this January). I've used the card pretty heavily since I got it, but only very recently began carrying balances + interest (it's been rough these last few years of undergraduate life, as I'm sure anyone else can confirm - but God brought me through it!). After subscribing and information overloading on all the great advice here, I hit the Luv button a few weeks ago and moved the slider to the $5K cap. It was instantly approved and now I sit at a $10K CL. I suspect this was greatly due to spending and my TU FICO (750 at the beginning of December).

Now, I'm a bit displeased that as heavily as I've used the card, Discover didn't offer CLIs sooner or more often. No matter. Out of curiosity, I hit the button again barely a week after after the new $5K increase, and got the two day message. I never heard back, of course, until a few days ago via paper mail, and the reason for denial is "not enough experience at the current credit limit". I hit the button again the other day, again, out of curiosity, and because I've spent heavily this month (in the name of gifting - mostly!) - same two day message. Smiley Very Happy I reckon I better leave that button alone until I come up with a plan to spend and PIF $7K-$8K, ha!

All this is to say, I agree with everyone's comments about Discover wanting to see heavy useage . And full payments. And a decent FICO (above 721 with them I think). But I'm no expert!
