If I app this week for an NFCU Visa Platinum and a gas card, will it kill my chances of getting approved for a Disney Chase Visa in December (we’re taking a cruise then, want to have card with me)?
My EXP score from My FICO is 665. Not sure on other FICO scores (EIDT MPM scores are 656 TU, 650 EX but I know those are FAKOs). My overall utilization is 27% ($999 out of $3700 credit limits). I have these cards:
Cap1 Visa $500 0 balance
Cap1 MC $2000 $999 balance
J Crew $450 0 balance
VS $750 0 balance
Do you think I can get NFCU and gas card now? Is there a good third card I could app for at the same time? I know my score is too low and util too high at this time for the other card I want, SPG Amex.
I don’t see any prequals but I think it’s because they are using older soft pulls. My score just shot up about 50 points from lowering my utilization down from 60%. No CO, BKR or collections but I have some late payments, most recent one is 7 months old. Income high 100s. AAoA is 8 years. I have a year-old auto loan, never late, and $175k in student loans, current.
I want to start increasing my CLs and I thought a card with NFCU would be a good way to do that.
yes, INQ's are treated as new for 5 months, and by december you will have new TL's. AP's in december will automaticly be looked upon as seeking new credit, while you may still get approved, but your CL will most likely be lower than it would of been if you didn't AP now.
I'll defer to others with more experience... but I think it could hurt you. I don't think the Disney card needs a high CS, but you score is probably boderline now. If possible, I would pay down the utilization to less than 10% on one card. I.E. between $20 - $180 on the Cap1 MC card. After your CR is updated, app for both the NFCU and the Disney card at the same time. Or wait until December to apply for both.
If you are unable to pay down your balance, then adding the NFCU card with a higer limit might help your CS due to lower util. However, if you can't pay down your current relatively small balance, it probably is not a good idea on going on a vacation either.
Just my oppinion. Please wait for others to chime in, too.
Yes, it'll hurt you. Based on your current profile, I would wait until december / january to app for the cards I want. I'm confident that your scores will be higher by then as long as you continue to PIF.
= Better scores = Better chances of approval = Essentially better limits
I might skip the gas card because I don't like shell or the credit card I don't think but how much do you drive.
However you have the option to get a navy credit card and you have not yet?
Id apply for Navy Credit Card (Cash rewards, not platinum!!) AND a Checking Line of Credit for $15k
Those 2 lines could be the golden ticket to get Chase to approve you in Dec.!!! if your current highest limit is $2k
You should really have your scores in the 680's to apply. Chase has always pulled two CR's for this card. If you want to have your disney gift card in time for your trip, I would suggest applying in late november. YMMV
OMG!!!!
I came home tonight to find a pre approved mailer from NFCU for the Cash Rewards card. Ha ha CreditAddict you are uncanny. Very very happy to see this!!!!!!! I opened my membership with them in July and checked every day for something in My Offers but always got nada.
I think I'll app in the morning and see how it goes. Then garden until late November and try for Disney and SPG at same time, depending on scores.
Why waste an HP on a tiny limit gas card? I think that makes sense.

Don't forget the $15k LOC. Good Luck!
