Would it be wise to PC from 5x Forward to Dividend Platinum select?

I have heard that TY points with the Citi Forward card have been devalued, and I'm planning to get the sallie mae for amazon purchases, The only other Citi card that appeals to me is their 5% cashback offering, though they don't advertise a calendar like the rest do, so it's hard to know if it would see use. I get all the same benefits of it plus Citi Easy Deals with the Diamond Preferred anyway.

What have you heard about the Forward being devalued? It's true that the card is no longer available for new people, but I was still getting 5x points for restaurants, amazon, and bookstores when my last billing cycle ended on May 16th. If the card is still getting 5x points, then PC'ing to a Dividend would be a terrible idea since, last I checked, the Dividend's categories are really poor.

I am still getting 5x points for my forward card as well, even though the redemption rates sucks... i just use whatever points I've accumluated from buying on amazon for giftscards for the girlfriend lol.

It's easy to get 1point = 1cent via student loan/mortgage check redemptions.  You don't actually need to have either so this is as good as cash.

But yes, terrible idea to PC.   Over Sallie Mae, the Amazon reward on Forward is uncapped, and it covers restaurants and other entertainment too.

Agreed.

I would't PC your Forward card to Dividend.. Dividend isn't that great of a card.

As of 2017, rebuilding...

Yes I meant the redemption rate in terms of devaluing. But you say I don't need either of those to get the 1cent value? Could you explain how?

Re: Would it be wise to PC from 5x Forward to Dividend Platinum select?

The best way:

You phone up Thank You Rewards and say you want the mortgage or student loan redemption (depending which seems more plausible).  They will ask you for the name of the bank/issuer that holds your loan.   You name a bank you use, say Wells Fargo.   They will ask if your lender accepts partial and third party payments (yes, they do!).  They then send YOU a check, made out to say Wells Fargo.  (They do this to avoid liability, it is your responsibility to send it to the lender).  You then deposit this check in your account at that bank.

(Or you can save up the points and redeem for $100 gift cards.  I believe these are all 10,000 TYP, also getting 1:1, but then you have a gift card rather than cash)
