Would you close zync?

My wife and I have both the prg and zync card. After having both and fighting with Amex right off the bat about initial purchase power... how can we establish a truthful relationship with them if were always worried about if our card is going to be declined. Or possibly the online spend tool dosent like us. My thought is just pay the 650 ish we owe them. Close it and keep the prg for fuel and food. Then use nfcu or chase for our bigger purchases. What do you think? I don't think there is a benefit of sd the card.

Re: Would you close zync?

If you have prg, not sure if you need zync. Npsl Amex cards aren't really that bad limit wise. You can grow spending power on them much quicker than any credit card. If you spend on card a lot and pay frequently, you will probably see your npsl limit increase to way more than you need on normal basis. Only reason to keep zync is maybe to take advantage of additional points by using one of the packs. Isn't there a cell phone or Internet pack?

+1.  If you can work the packs to your advantage then it might make sense to leave it open.   And the $25 is small enough that you could easily recoup it during the year....

Re: Would you close zync?

Sorry I meant to say only couple of months of spending and paying frequently can move your npsl limit up a ton. For example, I moved mine from around 3.5k to over 70k in 2-3 months

Re: Would you close zync?

Ill look in to the packs tonight, I was going to order a new radio/speakers and a few nick nacks for my commander side by side and had my wife check the spend tool for 1800, declined, 1500 denied. Had her call on Saturday and the rep "said when you know what your going to spend call back and we can get credit on the phone. But my tool is saying stay around 1100 per purchase." I ended up using the new chase card but I've been stewing about it. I really let stupid stuff like my lack of patients bother me. But being realistic our goal was to drop the zync and get a bce or similar card. Down the road say 12-18 months. Don't know if it's smart to break our purchases up like sara use the zync and I use the gold. Or just use the hell out of the prg

Re: Would you close zync?

To answer the pr gold vs zync question, you need to decide what you will do with the points. Remember, you can convert full mr points to airline miles. So if that is your goal, you want to keep the pr gold. You also need to look at how the point multipliers work with your spending habits. I use my zync for restaurants, groceries (my local stores all get double points through the Eco pack) and Costco. If I used it for travel, the gold would make more sense to me. You should only keep both if your own spending habits show you are getting multiplier points with the zync you wouldn't get with the pr good. As for the spending limits, I don't think zync of gold matters. I put a 10k heating/AC system through my zync yesterday despite never having run more than 1500/month through the card. Went through no problem. Others get 500 charges rejected. Like everything Amex, ymmv.
In wallet: Ink Plus 10k, AMEX TE 25k. In bag: CSP 16k, USAA WMC 15k, Hyatt 13k, United MPE 12k, AMEX HHonors 3k. In SD: Cap 1 QS 5k, Discover IT 7k. FICO 08 says my EQ is now 844, was 510 in 2010.

Re: Would you close zync?

Yes, I did close my zync I recently got the PRG card too. When I called to cancel they connected my to account closures and the lady said "I don't blame you the PRG does umbrella the Zync" now granted the PRG also cost $175 a year so she gets paid to say that. I do also think if your spending that on an annual fee I'm gonna use it as much as possible for the rewards. IMO of course. Also some would agree and some disagree keep hitting the spending limit button online sometimes gets u a slap on the wrist from Amex if you hit a lot.

Re: Would you close zync?

I have a Zync, Plat and BCE

I havent even used the Zync in 5 months since I use hte BCE and Plat more often.

Im also debating whether to keep it open since it has a $25 AF. I might just keep it open and do a better job rotating it.

Re: Would you close zync?

Almost same post/question last week...

I understand it might be easier to say Im about to charge $2k and not sure Amex will approve but Chase says I have $2500 limit so I know it will go through vs. Zync might get me a denial back.... HOWEVER, does no one get "need to call" or declined to only find out upon using different card and leaving store or getting home, they just wanted to make sure it was you before allowing charge?

It seems everyone puts EXTREME pressure on "I didn't use the card I really wanted to use because I didn't want to get declined in the store"

I have had to talk to Chase IN STORE, AT REGISTER for over 30 (THIRTY!) Minutes before to get a transaction to go through (that was little extreme to me and a little embarrasing but it was $9k so I get a few extra checks might be in order (so this was actually oppisite to me, I had Amex Gold in pocket and I would not have had to blink for that to approve with no calls but the point was I wanted to use this Chase card and I had the limit so I was going to use it rather the store or cashier liked it.. and in the end they really don't care as long as it does go through in the end, they want to make money too!

In the end as others consistenly say, the more you use Amex, the more internal limit you will get... I bet if you had simply gone to your online checking account and pushed a $1500 payment to Zync and then charge the $1500, the internal limit probably would have moved up instantly just for that... If you have Cash, push some larger payments to Amex and then charge as normal... within a few months you will never have to worry or check if something will go through!

Other thing is if you add a checking account to your Amex and you get a "call in or a decline" Amex will say I can let this charge go through if you can make a payment, sometimes it's as little as like 30-40% of balance and sometimes it's the whole balance... If you say okay on Monday or Tuesday you can make the payment for full amount out of the checking and say it's a Friday or Sat.  They will put the payment in to be made and then release the card for charges even though the payment has not been made....

Re: Would you close zync?

I just don't want to play that game with 2 cards, is it the same thing if I do 6k a month with the prg or 3k and 3k it seems like 6 in 1 hand and a half a dozen in the other... I think without the piece of mind that the card is going to be approved its not worth having. Our nfcu and best buy are all we carry a balance on when we do carry one
