Yet Another AMEX Backdate Question

I am very pleased to report that I app'ed for and was approved for an AMEX PR GOLD CARD.

The time from app to approval was 4 days, so they kept me sweating for a while.

I currently have a PLUM card with a Member Since Date of 1991.  It does not report on my personal Credit Files.  Of course I am very keen on having my new Personal Gold Card report to the CRAs as 1991.

I called to confirm that the card will have my 91 Member Since Date on it.  The CSR told me that it does not, but that I can have it changed when the card arrives.

What can I do to ENSURE that my new personal card will report 91 and not 2011?

Do I need to call BEFORE I activate?  What if the card starts reporting to the CRAs as 2011?  Will it still be possible to get it changed?  Does the card automatically report to the CRA's as opened on the member since date showing on the card and the website?  Everyone seems to be receiving their cards automatically showing the Member Since date of a previous card.

Help please.  I don't want to screw this up.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Yet Another AMEX Backdate Question

Call and ask them to backdate it.  Date should show on your online account.

+1.  If they already said it would be backdated, it's likely already taken care of.  When you register the card online, check the member since date on your online profile.  If the member since date when you log on is correct, it doesn't matter what it says on your card.  They stamp the cards in bulk and often don't get you a physical card that is backdated even when they have set the account up correctly.

If your online log-in is incorrect, you need to call them back and ask them to backdate the account.  So long as you take care of it early, before it shows up on your CR, it should report on your CR with the member since date as the open date.  Even if you don't do it before it starts reporting, you may still get it backdated, but some have reported having issues if the card first reports with a different open date.

Re: Yet Another AMEX Backdate Question

Thanks

The CSR says they will send me a new card with my 91 Member Since date without a problem.  But she said dhe could not do it until my original card arrives.

When does a new AMEX acct begin reporting to the CRA's?  Is it immediate?  After the first statement?  Somewhere in between?

It's not immediate.  Can't remember exact timeframe, but it takes a while after first statement.

Re: Yet Another AMEX Backdate Question

Well.

New card came today with the backdated Member Since date.  Web site also shows this date.

I guess that means I'm in.  I'll have to see the account open date on the CRA files, but I guess this looks good.

No?

Re: Yet Another AMEX Backdate Question

Yes, it looks good!

My PRG card shows a 2011 date.  Website account shows a 1990's date.  CRAs show the 1990's date.

I think you're golden!

Congrats!!  Smiley Happy
