Can a Store Credit Card Charge late fee's, on top of late fee's and then Interest on the late fees?

I paid off the balance on my Younkers Credit card account in Sept. 08. In October I was charged 

a late fee and I tried calling HSBC Retail Services with no satisfaction. Then in November I was

charged a late fee on top of the October late fee with interest.  I have written a letter to them and

decided to send them the late fee charged in October figuring I would just cut my losses rather

than fight with them, but since then they keep charging me a late fee every month with interest

accrueing on the late fee's.  I have no outstanding balance and have charged nothing since Sept.08

I can't get anywhere with them.  Can they do this? Does anyone know how I can get this matter

resolved?

Welcome to the forums. Escalate this beyond the level 1 CSR. Ask for their supervisor or his/her supervisor's supervisor. Explain your situation. Was the Sept. 08 payment late?
