1. Citi Forward (5x Restaurants, Amazon, Entertainment)

3. Citi DoubleCash (2x non-category spend)

Will be getting rid of CSP when AF comes up. Only used for the bonus. My Forward beats CSP's dining (even when valuing UR points at 2cpp) and I don't travel too much at the moment, and when I do it's with UR/MR points.

Will get rid of Amex PRG when AF comes up as well unless they make the rewards more worthwhile. Will PC BCE -> ED to keep the MR points.

Will probably close Discover It as well. No sense in having Freedom and It when they cover pretty much the same categories. And Discover is being very stingy with CLI's. Plus, still get my TU FICO from Barclay SallieMae so no loss there, and the SavingStar Shopping Portal has proven much better than Discover's.

How did you get that 7x on gas, 5x on groceries? Mine's only 5x for both..

Occasionally, Barclays will send out random targeted offers to certain customers that will give them extra rewards in certain categories, usually temporarily.

Re: Your two main cards..

Bank of America Platinum Privileges and American Express PRG. I put $51000 on those cards last year.

Re: Your two main cards..

I am really using three at this time:

1. USAA Preferred Master Card

2. Amex - Costco (for now)

3. Target Visa

I will be curious to see what will replace the Costco Amex next year, I will make changes at that point.

Re: Your two main cards..

With my recent approvals, I finally have the lineup that (almost) maximizes rewards for all of my spending.

Two main cards:

1. Sallie Mae - 5% gas, groceries, and amazon. As a college student, most of my current spending is groceries and everything else is amazon so it works very well. Starting in June I'll have a car again and gas will also be factored in.

2. Amex BCE - 3% groceries, 2% gas/dept. stores, significantly high limit (for me). Although most of these categories overlap with Sallie, I frequently buy groceries for friends and get reimbursed which often puts me over the $250 cap. I also use the BCE as a general spend card because it is, by far, my highest limit card so I never have to worry about my balance or util.

Notable mentions:

3. Chase AARP - 3% restaurants/gas. I use this card exclusively for dinning but I eat out a lot so it's a great card to have.

4. Discover It - 5% categories, Discover Deals. Since getting approved for the previously mentioned cards, the It has been moved to the sock drawer. I do still like to keep it around for the occasionally beneficial categories and for the always beneficial Discover Deals. If I buy anything online (that isn't from amazon), you can bet I'm gonna go through Discover Deals.

Possible improvements: The only area of my spending that could be further maximized would be general spend, since I'm currently only getting 1% from BCE. Currently, getting an extra .5%-1% isn't a huge priority, especially because very little of my spending actually falls into this category. In the future, I'll consider the QS or DC (or whatever new and exciting general spend cards come out in the coming months!).

Re: Your two main cards..

My default card is the Citi Double Cash.

#2 is a bit of a tie at the moment. BCP gets used for groceries every week and Sallie Mae gets use for gas & Amazon. However, when the AF rolls around next month, I'm going to PC to BCE, and then SM will take over the #2 spot entirely.

Re: Your two main cards..

Really makes you re consider the amount of cards to have from looking at your usage. Time to start trimming down !
