I have added my girlfriend on my AMEX BCE as an AU, and would like to see her get a secure credit card, but she does not want one.
my question is, do you think that if in six months maybe a year of her being a AU on my bce would she most likely be approved for the discover it student card?
do you think it would make sense for me to add her as an AU to another one of my cards? or should one be good enough?

She doesn't want a secured card but she wants to piggyback off of your credit? What's her profile like?
no she didn't really want to piggy back off my credit, I wanted her to haha, she has student loans, but is still in school, so she hasnt had to pay any of thos back, besides that, nothing

What is her reason for not wanting one? Would she rather have a Victoria secret or other retail card instead?
yeah, maybe a victoria secret or walmart credit card would be a good idea in a few months after she has some history from being an AU, and mostly just doesn't want to be bothered by opening one and putting the money toward it to back it
Frankly, I'm with her. I think secured cards should be the last resort. It sounds like she's got other options to build: If you trust her enough, make her an AU and give it a while to get her going and then she'll be fine to apply for some lower end prime cards. She has student loans; are they in deferrment or is she paying on them? If she's paying them, that'll help too.

She needs her own card, if not a secured card then perhaps a store card. AU's will help with a score but on manual review most likely it will not help her. Is there any income, cu she can join?
cu she can join? sorry if I'm missing something here, but I dont know what cu means.
and okay, I am going to talk to her about getting a walmart credit card in a few months after she has had amex reporting for a few months, I'm assuming that wouldnt hurt, and that way she will get the free fico score, even though she wont be interested in it, haha I will

I actually never liked the idea of a secured credit card; but I did do a secured loan.
VS; best buy; clothing store she frequents... something like that might be more motivating than a secured credit card.
do you think walmart would give her a card?
