Re: amex everyday a joke?

Of course it's not swipes. Smiley Happy

The EveryDay is marketing genius because CC networks make a base amount of money per transaction. Since AMEX runs the network they get a larger slice of the pie than other issuers.

It also gets people to do less preloads on stored value cards like Starbucks (where the merchant would much prefer to pay 1 transaction fee and make interest on your money) and use the card instead.

And that's how AMEX can afford to give out more MRs as a bonus.

Re: amex everyday a joke?

Makes sense but there MR bonus suck because MR points suck compared to UR from Chase. But that's not here nor there. For some reason I feel like singing everyday I'm hustling. Because it would be quite the hustle for me to make 20 purchases because in so cheap lol. Thanks for answering my question

Re: amex everyday a joke?

I definitely could meet... I eat way too much fast food/go out for lunch way too often.

But then again, I probably wouldn't be putting restaurants on an Amex Everyday, and that's where the vast majority of my swipes are.

When I was putting all non-restaurant purchase on my Cap1, I usually got 20 on that in addition to my Citi card, but now that I put the gas/grocery purchase on Sallie Mae, my spending is more spread out.  I almost always get 20+ on Citi (or this quarter, Chase Freedom) though.

Re: amex everyday a joke?

You can buy $0.15 amazon gift cards and send them to yourself, as an easy way to make the transactions near the end of the month.   But if you are serious about MRs, you really would use the card for almost everything, especially the preferred version where, if you value MR at 2c, you are getting 3% on all non-category transactions.

So, no, not a joke, but sounds like not the card for you!

its an interesting card , depends on how much you value Amex MR points tbh. I was contemplating that card after my potential apps for sallie mae and fidelity amex. Sallie mae is planned for Oct and fidelity amex next spring sometime

Re: amex everyday a joke?

For me the card makes plenty of sense - I spend plenty on Groceries and Gas. Also at 1.5 per dollar for non-category - its a nice option to wrack up MR rewards when you would just be getting 1 per dollar or something in the form of cash back. I've hit the 30 transactions each month so far (and well on the way this month) - it took some creativity with the short billing cycle first up though (split purchases with wife one evening fixed that right up). I tend to buy bread at a wholesale bakery 2-3x a week (small purchase), one large grocery shop, and maybe a milk run each week. (So already we are at 16). Gas for non-rotating quarters sees me pony up 4x a month as well (I suspect it will be tougher in Gas quarters- but this month I have a 5000 mile road-trip coming up which will be netting me 3x unlimited Smiley Wink). Then an odd purchase here and there at discounters, pharmacy and transport and a few smaller non category purchases and we are already there. Takes a little more thinking, but you can easily do it and make it work if you spend plenty in the major bonus categories.

Re: amex everyday a joke?

I chose this for my first Amex card less than two weeks ago. I've already used it 14 times. I eat out everyday for lunch and sometimes buy a Monster Energy drink in the afternoons from the cafeteria. It's pretty easy for me to hit 20 uses.

Re: amex everyday a joke?

It's definitely possible. On average I'll swipe my cards ~100 times per month, and as much as 300-400 times (usually in December).
