I'm ready for my last one on July 12th.  We can try.  They can say no.  We'll live.  Smiley Wink

Re: amex reduced line

I only have one with a 6k limit.  So spending is limited.  I usually put 2k a month on it.  Maybe a bit more.  Just don't want to go over the 30%.  I thought that woudl be a red flag on a major cc card.

Looks like amex reduced my total lines to 2k for two cards. When I called they cited that I had gotten some new accounts. I have gotten 3 new accounts in the past 2 months but I think the main reason they cut it is since I havent been a big spender on it.

Nope.  It's a matter of risk assessment.  The new credit you added was determined to be a risk for your credit profile.  In other words, someone else could have done the same with a different credit profile in better standing and not seen AA..  Usage and relationship tend to get overemphasized around here.  They may play a small part in some situations but they are not primary decision factors such as credit and income and will not overrule those primary factors.

If you have amex it seems like they really want the cards to be used to the fullest(safely of course).

I rarely use my TE and it has not been CLD'ed but that's just anecdotal and a single data point.  There are a lot of urban myths like this about Amex -- another popular one being "AmEX hates balances".  All of them seem to be based on assumed causality and a lack of understanding.

+1. I have a $25k Delta and barely charge $100 per month on it. Don't think it's about usage.

Re: amex reduced line

35k line on my Everyday...EZ pass refill of anywhere from 25-50 every other month has been the only thing charged for the last year....

You spooked them elsewhere. Whether it be the new accounts, util or something else on your reports. Come garden and this won't happen.

Re: amex reduced line

Here's an update. Was able to get Amex to restore some of the line so its at 8k. The rep did a few tests to see what would go through and 7900 went through fine but 8001 was declined so my real limit is 8k and no more.

I'm happy with that. My reports don't have any negatives but new accounts combined with utilization is not the best situation.

The good thing is now I know what I can spend safely if needed.

Terrific news. Glad you decided to call instead of sticking with the 2k. Smiley Happy

Re: amex reduced line

Thanks. I think one thing that made a difference is my Amex history goes way back and I've never stiffed them. Even when things got rocky I paid them every dime.
