So i want a travel card, basically i would be happy if i get a free flight from time to time, i dont travel much and dont want to lock in w/ any particular airline, but have a few trips i would like to check off my list. i applied for a CSP a week ago but im i am going to assume its not getting approved at this point, got the we need to review it message, and the auto line still saying will be notifed within 30 days. i burned chase, citi and cap one, one way or another in the past- serious delquency, charge off, settled ect but all that is at least 10yrs ago, but never BK. i have amx zync - unicorn card- and bce i have upgrade options to Plantium, gold and bcp. as much as i hate to give my white unicorn up it really serves no purpose at this point, its annaul fee is only $25 and i really only use it for by ez pass, i like the benifits of Platium but i cant justify that big annaul fee, can anyone shed some light on realworld examples of what they get out of it? the gold is easier to swallow bcp im on the fence cause i would def shift alot of spend to gold to plat to get any bonus
@phillyguy12, since your questions are regarding Amex upgrades and not your pending Chase app I'm moving your thread to 'Credit Cards' for additional exposure.

You asked for some real-world examples of the benefits of the Platinum card.
You have to travel in order to realize the value of the platinum and you have to take advantage of the credits it offers.
I've already recouped my platinum annual fee and then some and I've only had the card for 5 months now. That doesnt even take into account airport lounge visits, Hilton room upgrades, amex offers and rewards.
3 different 2 night hotel stays with The Hotel Collection getting $75 credits each stay. $225 ( Nightly average cost was $165 so you can see it wasnt some super fancy resort. It was a plain old Hilton)
Airline Credit $200
Saks Credit - $50
5 months of Uber Credits - $75
6 days breakfast at Hilton for 2 people - $100 ( This is a very low estimate but is comparable to what I really would pay for breakfast had I gone to a restaurant)
Ahead $100 of Annual fee so far
I have two Hotel Collection stays in March, one being a Waldrof Astoria so Hilton Gold benefits there.
So thats $150 in credits as its 2 different stays. Free Breakfast at the Waldrof Astoria and maybe a room upgrade
3 days of free breakfast for 2 people in Rome would probably cost me $60
Total Value - $210
I have another 7 months of card membership for this annual fee.
During that time I will get another $125 in Uber credits.
Another Saks credit of $50
Another $200 airline credit ( We wont count this in the calcuation as its only possible during the first year of card membership)
With the above calculation I will come out ahead of the annual fee by $485. Again this number doesnt factor in Airport Lounge access, value of free room upgrades, etc.
The Platinum easily pays for itself, and if you use the benefits its quite easy to come out ahead by quite a good amount.
