citi card compromised question

I was made aware of an unauthorized charge dated today on my citi card. I was going to call citi and report the fraud, however, i had ordered an xbox from walmart a week ago and it hasn't shipped. There is a pending charge on the citi card from the day i ordered it. The citi card is currently locked and i was thinking of calling in and telling citi I didn't make the unauthorized transaction and to dispute it while telling them not to cancel the card because if they do, i'll have to cancel the walmart order due to walmart not allowing for payment to be changed. Since I locked the card, will walmart try to authorize the same charge on my citi credit card when they do ship the item? I don't want to have my card locked (locking a card prevents new purchases) and then have walmart not be able to re-charge my card for the order when they do ship the xbox, which will inevitably lead to a order cancellation. Anyone have experience with walmart in particular? thanks!

Re: citi card compromised question

Have you tried calling Walmart and asking if you can change the card that your order will bill to? I'm sure this isn't the first time this situation has occurred and a billing change is necessary with WM charge on shipping policy.

So let me see if I understand this correctly. You prefer to not dispute a fraudulent charge so that you can get your xBox. 😳 Come on!

Report the fraud.
Cancel the card.

Order another xBox.

In that order.

Priorities OP.  Would you rather be liable for the unauthorized charges? I mean, the CC issuer is taking a step to reduce liability and protect your account which is in essence the higher costs that everyone pays when fraud occurs. I'd definitely heed the advice from @CreditInspired.

My suggestion is to reach out to Citi and explain the situation and see what options are available given that the Walmart transaction was in the works (which is a legitimate charge) prior to the unauthorized charge(s). I'm sure you're not the only customer who has run into this specific scenario. Potentially, if the Walmart [xBox] charge gets rejected once the card gets closed out, would they give you the option to use a different payment method? Does the xBox need to be charged onto that particular Citi card?

Walmart doesn't allow payment changes as I've found out yesterday.

Ok, then the simplest solution, although a bit unorthodox, is to leave the card as is until the xBox ships. The issue you could run into is Citi declining the Walmart charge if the other suspected transaction causes a domino effect on flagging secondary charges. How were you alerted of the suspected transaction -- text, phone call or email? When did the suspected transaction occur, date-wise?
