closing cards?

If you close recently open cards,  say not a year old,  and still have older cards,  will your average age go up?

Re: closing cards?

No! All trade lines (not collections) rather open or closed will factor in credit history length and average-age of accounts.

Re: closing cards?

One of the pitfalls that I found when I woke up out of my credit coma, and being 'credit needy for years', was the ability to apply for new cards, and get them!

That's a good thing and a bad thing, at once.

I sorely regret for applying for 3 cards, as the average age of my accounts took a big nosedive. And I'm stuck with it. Smiley Sad

Re: closing cards?

Yeah i wish I would have been a little more patient and let my scores get higher before I started apping for cards I currently don't want. Now I got 2 soon to be 3 closed cards on my reports
