credit card charge off and interest rates

can bank charge interest rates on credit cards once  account is charge off?

My citi credit card has been charge off lately this January 2009, and each month I recieve statement I have more interest rates accrue

Yep! Unfortunately they can and will continue to add away to their content and then charge it off and assign or sell it to a CA who would then continue to add the interest along with their charges. FDCPA does state that interest cannot be added unless permitted by the original contract but I am sure the contract does. Even if the contract is not available, most states permit interest to be accrued

Yup..  and that's how my 5k FirstUSA Visa Gold (circa 1993) wound up over 10k.  I think I ended up paying back about 8k of it and settling the rest. 

Gee, if I knew then what I know now.
