1.  I know multiple hard inqs within a short time is ok for something like shopping for a car.  Does the same hold true for Credit cards?

I am afraid not.

FIGHT to get your card back. Call, email, snail mail whatever. Write recons, gw's etc. That's what I'd do.
Good luck!

Re: Multiple CCC inquiries over a couple of weeks?

Do what Stylin says...fight it! I have a same type of situation with a BofA account. The bank, in this case, made a terrible error with my PIF payment to my 99/500 partially secured card which resulted in the Visa being closed. I got lucky and had the bank document what happened, but I'm trying to get the bank to talk to their CC division and they're not communicating well. I won't take no for an answer. I have not used this service, but maybe PFB may be an option. They may be my last resort. Meanwhile, BofA asked me to reapply.

Ditto to the inquiries answer.

Per Junny. I appd for a biz card with personal guarantee on their US Air card and was denied. A week later I appd for their SeaMiles (personal) and was instantly approved. I don't think multiple apps are an issue.

Re: Multiple CCC inquiries over a couple of weeks?

Whatever you do don't get First Premier or Orchard Bank.  I got both of these cards when my credit scores were terrible.  I plan to close the First Premier card because it has a $6.00 a month fee on it.  And, Orchard Bank is a division of HSBC.  I have an Orchard Bank silver card and have had the credit limit go from $300 to $1500 over the course of the 4 years I have had it but I called last night to see about getting the interest rate lowered  (probably the 5th time I've called about this) and was told that it is at it's lowest of 22.15% because it is a reestablish card.  My credit score is now in the mid-600s and in the last year I've been approved for a WAMU card with an $1500 CL with an interest rate under 10% and an HSBC card with an $1100 credit limit and a good interest rate.  I'd try either of those before going anywhere near First Premier or Orchard Bank.

Multiple inqs for CCs definitely hurt.

2. Do I really stand a chance of being given another chance by Citibank considering they just closed my account?

I think so. But don't apply for a new card after they closed a card on you. Try to have the old one re-opened.

3. I applied for a Juniper card this morning ............... missed the fine print about applying for the USAirways version. I applied for the Barnes and Noble and was declined ......... Can I go back and reapply for one of the other Juniper cards or will this morning's rejection?

Some banks have a policy about applying to soon. But if you were just denied from the same bank my guess is that you will be denied again.

4. If I applied for another Capital One -- will they give it to me even if I already have one?

Yes you can have more than 1 card from the same bank. Check the time frame that they allow for new apps and second accounts before you apply. Could save an inq.

I had an auto pay bounce on Citi. They came down on me hard. They are so hard to bend. Good to you if you are good to them, but they really disapprove of bounced payments. They blamed my mishap on my bank and not even my fault. Didn't change anything when they knew I was not at fault. AHHH when it turned out to be a Citi glitch they were more than humble to put all back the way it was. Keep trying to get your Citi card reinstated. But contact the right dept. CSRs have little to no say. I think you can get it back with a lot of effort and if you have no recent lates.

If your autopay was set to FULL that can backfire. Change it to MINIMUM PAYMENT then manually pay the difference before the due date. Auto pay should only be a back up to prevent missed payments. Too hard to leave so much money in your account to PIF with AUTO PAYS. Minimums are only like 2-4% of bal.

Have you considered getting a CC through a CU?  They tend to be more consumer friendly than the major issuers.
