Re: dumb question

Not a dumb question at all.

Sometimes, yes, the card will be removed.  In most cases, however, the creditor just stops reporting the former AU account, which means it stays on the report but never gets updated.

If you want it removed, after you are removed from your father's card as AU, have him contact the CC issuer and ask them to delete their account from your report.  If they refuse or if they are slow to act, then dispute with the CRAs as "not mine," since the account no longer belongs to you.

Hope this helps.

Re: dumb question

Thank you, very helpful. One more question

I need to add new credit, my scores are TU-652, EQ- 650, EXP- 647
I have 4 accounts in collection(unpaid, and 3 up for removal this year-7yr age)
I have one paid released tax lien(one year old)
All of my debt comes from being an AU. 3,000 debt-35,000 limit(3 cards)

Any recommendations on where i should start looking for my own credit?

Would doing an secured CD or secured credit card help me get starter?

Your scores are decent, considering the CAs and PR.  Your revolving utilization is in the ideal range.

A CD won't help, since it's not credit.  If you want a new secured credit card, see if Bank of America offers you one by checking the BofA preapproval link here:

If not, try a local credit union or perhaps National City.  Ideally, you want a secured card that will grow with you and eventually unsecure when you're eligible.  As an absolute last resort, you can look into Orchard Bank, but keep in mind that this one will not grow with you at all.

Re: dumb question

I think with your scores you can get a regular cc with a Credit Union - my stepdaughter did and she had no credit to start with.
05/12: approx 680 across the board
04/08 EQ: 730 TU: 748 EX: 718
03/08: EQ: 713 TU: ? EX: ?
12/07: EQ: 689 TU: 711 EX: 721

Re: dumb question

Cheddar,

The Orchard Bank cards DO grow with you, but you get smacked with processing fees to get CLIs and I think you can only get CLIs every six months. Not ideal, but not poor. Obviously an Orchard or a First Premier card can help you by giving you a CC and then you can keep the balance between 0 - 9% relatively easily to boost scores over a few months.

But a partially secured card from BofA is probably the best thing to get, if you have score issues. I know that if I had one of these when I got my First Premier or my Orchard Bank, by now they would have become  unsecured and I'd have higher CLs. To go nine months without missing a payment shouldn't be too difficult for anyone especially if BofA doesn't rack up charges JUST TO GIVE YOU THE CARD (as Orchard Bank does) in the first pace, so you UTL is low in the first place; therefore it's just a matter of keeping the card and using it sparingly for nine months - i.e. pretend  you don't have it except for a gas fill-up once a month.

Since the question was about secured cards, I was referring to the Orchard Secured Card.  I have never heard of anyone being able to unsecure their Orchard Secured.

Mine, for example, I got when my scores were in the low 600s / high 500s.  They pulled EX at the time, which was something like 610-ish, and I had $0 revolving credit.  Now, my EX score is 719 with ~ $24K revolving credit, never late, never OTL.  A card that grows with you would have unsecured me by now, right?  Not Orchard.  They won't even review my account to see if I'm qualified.
