how do you answer this question?

In the past when I have requested CLI I have always been asked by the company, why I am requesting the limit...

How do you guys answer this question, or what is the best answer to give?  I have always said something along the lines of, I just want more spending/purchase power.  I always get approved so that must be a fine answer, just was wondering what everyone else says...

I have never been asked why? I have been asked the CL I would like instead.

Re: how do you answer this question?

So far I think only Macys / Bloomingdales have asked me this.

i'd just tell them I am planning to make a big purchase and rather than to pay for it using different cards.

seems to just be random chatter while the system is processing / pulling my info though.

I would say that I foresee the need for larger purchases in the future.

Re: how do you answer this question?

Depends on the card.  For a general purpose CC I usually do it around the holidays and use that as a reason.  For a store card like Amazon or Lowes I'm constantly in need of a new TV or lawn mower, seems to work.  Typically aren't asked for a reason though.

I would simply state the obvious:

"... I never allow my spending to exceed 30% of my available limit, so having a higher credit limit will provide the flexibility I need to make the most efficient use of my account, making me less reliant on any competing company's product... and as a highly intelligent representative of your fine organization, you can surely recognize the value proposition in granting me a generous extension of my line of credit... oh, and by the way, you have such a sweet voice, I'll bet your company is very proud to have you on their team! ..."

How can they say no to that.Smiley Happy

Re: how do you answer this question?

Usually good reasons are for vacation/holiday use or if the balance is low, that you want the balance to be comparable with your other trade lines...

Like others I always say I'm doing it because I need more purchasing power. Tell them you're having to use your "other" companies card to make up for lack of purchasing power on the card you want a credit limit increase on.  That has worked twice for me. Make them work to keep your business.
