Ive always had Wells Fargo but In the past couple months, since Ive started on this credit journey Ive opened:
NFCU
Penfed
Affinity FCU
BMO Harris Bank
US Alliance - they are a big aggresive opened my account last night and they have been calling/texting me non stop about applying for their cc/loans
Langley
Alliant (Considering opening as my last one)
Navy federal is the only one I have a credit card with so far , but heres to hoping that Ill have all the top tier cards from each of these places in the next year
What are some of your favorite cards from this list ? Am I missing any credit union gems ( i would have done AOD but they got rid of their 3% card)

I have experience with NFCU, PenFed, Affinity, Langley, and Alliant. They are all very good in my opinion.
As to what is a gem, that is in the eye of the beholder and depends on what you want the card for.
I consider the PenFed Power Cash Rewards card, when you've satisfied the requirements for 2% cash back, to be an excellent card for purchases.
I consider NFCU's platinum card to be an excellent card for balance transfers and cash advances.
Does Affinity, Alliant or LAngley do hard inquiries to join or soft?
@MCM1 soft
USAlliance has a 3% card but that is planned to be nerfed at the end of the year. FWIW, they do have VERY good certificate rates
@Anonymous thanks for the info , you got any data points for this card ?- and yes i heard they have nerfed it before but then it comes back sometimes so who knows whatll happen in the future

Are we talking about opening accounts with banks and credit unions to develop a relationship with them so you can get approved more easily in the future?
A few months ago I opened no-fee checking and savings accounts with Union Bank with an eye towards their pending merger with U.S. Bank, so I'll look like I've been banking with them for a longer period of time when the time comes to open a U.S. Bank card. (I'm not in a hurry to do that, but I might want to in a year or two - and I didn't see any similar no-fee checking and savings options from U.S. Bank.)
I also filled out the form to open a savings account from Dover and joined the Bombay Hook organization. Their cards look like a pain in the butt to get, but they could be valuable to have at some point in the future - and if they make it harder to join the credit union in the future, then now seems like a good time to join.
@LADave yah thats the hope - build a relationship so i can get approved easier - but also posted this to gather some data points too
@mfinsmi1, I don't see Abound Credit Union and their Visa Platinum Credit Card, which may be may not be useful to you. You might want to check them out.
@cws-21 oh wow a 5% gas card PLUS 5% rotating categories - any DP for apporval on this card?
