People keep repeating over and over again how amazing Discover's customer service is. I am genuinely curious: what is so amazing about it?

they openly tell you they need to hp for a cli so they can decline it or give minimal raise?
they smile while talking to you?
the low level of acceptance makes you feel good when you call them to find a store that takes it?
"They openly tell you that a HP results from your request for CLI."
False... when I did mine at 6 mths the friendly girl said no there would be no hard pull. I said go for it and of course there was a HP.

@Barry, I would have called back and had them remove the HP.
or demanded the same $250 they gave me, twice!
I like Discover's customer service because they are clear and easy to understand, they answer questions in a friendly way and even if they say no, they usually will do SOMETHING for you or offer some kind of alternative.

Ok, so what are you comparing this customer service to? I would consider what you described as basic customer service, not "outstanding" service, as often touted here.
I can compare it to Amex (who are friendly but VERY difficult to understand) and say that Discover is easier to understand.
Compare it to Chase and say that Discover is better about at least offering me some sort of solution vs. just saying "sorry, no, bye".
You obviously don't like Discover, and that's fine, but the definition of good customer service is so variable anyway that it's a pointless thing to argue about. Everyone has had great experiences with lenders and awful experiences with lenders. Discover's customer service, in my experience, has been very good. Maybe for you it wasn't. My experience with Chase hasn't been great. Maybe for you it has. But is there a reason you insist on arguing that Discover's must not be any better than anyone else?
