Re: "What’s the point in having 100k in limits if you can’t spend it?"

New old member here...

Though I never intend or will make any actual attempt to reach $100K in TCL, my latest app a month ago brought me halfway there ($50K).  I'm fine with $10K to be honest, but I guess I don't have to worry about utilization at all at the point I'm at now.  Nor do I need to ask for CLIs.

I rarely put more than $2k on a card, and it's easy enough to pay it before statement cut/reporting date to avoid it reporting if utilization is a concern.

Formerly CreditMarathoner. Cards: BoA CCR MC $8,000 / Chase Amazon Prime VS $3,000 / Chase Freedom Unlimited VS $5,000 / Chase Sapphire Preferred VS $12,000 / Elan Sharonview FCU Max Cash Preferred VS $23,500 / TCL $51,500

What page on CK shows you that?  I'm going all over the site to see what it says about my limits compared to "similar profiles" but I can't find it.  Maybe mine aren't impressive enough for them? Smiley Happy

Yes, I got one too. I had thought of posting it somewhere on the forum. For some reason, Credit Karma and others lag my own tallies of Total Credit Limits beyond that my $35K in business lines don't report to personal. (I'm at $842K right now.)  Still, $740,704 above average isn't doing too poorly! Lol 😜.

**bleep**, too bad Credit Karma emails are filtered at the domain level for me, so I don't even get to see them in my spam folder.🤣
My TCL is a bit more pedestrian compared to yours, but still 6 figures.

Back to gardening until Late February 2026.

I have gone the other way and drastically reduced my TCL and focused on the rewards as a hobby to the point a year ago the DW noticed why I kept rotating the same 10 restaurants most of the time, she caught me.....9MR points, so I confessed my addiction and after sending me to reward rehab.....It was also  to the point I would see if any restaurants were on the list on our vacations, she caught me there too.

I admit I'm becoming a bit of a rewardaholic too.  My last card app wasn't intended to bump my TCL but they gave me a huge limit bringing my TCL to $50K... I might resort to reallocating or CLDing a card before CLIing another just to not go over that.  I grabbed the new card when I saw the rewards shown on the mailer... if not for that, I would have fed it to the shredder.

I also never thought I'd have 5 cards either... for the various rewards of course.  For many years I only had 2 cards and one was a tiny limit one to force me to control my spending.  I still keep my Amazon Prime card at a low ($1500) limit so I don't go crazy on Amazon. Smiley Happy

There's nothing wrong with maximizing rewards (and free FTF with as many cards as possible), I'd hardly call it being a rewardaholic (that implies harm, as long as the rewards aren't an excuse to spend more). Also, I would NEVER CLD a card (unless they were moving that limit to another card). I would want a larger limit just to increase my FICO/padding

Of course, if you know that you can't be responsible with a larger limit, it's a smart decision not to increase it.
