Re: using the chip and signature feature

Walmart just processes cards slowly even with just swiping. Not sure why. Meanwhile, chip at Home Depot has always been fairly fast. It just sucks that they seemingly don't support PIN and makes you sign for a $2 purchase.

One place that processed chip really slowly was a taco shop by my work. Their chip terminal was only connected by phone line while their magstripe only one was connected via Ethernet. So of course, they inserted into the chip reader and it took 30+ seconds for it to dial out. Cat Sad

Re: using the chip and signature feature

Went to Walmart today and paid for $54 with my PRG and the swipe failed, cashier asked me if my card was chip and then showed me how to insert it, held it in there until approved message came up. Did not have to sign.

hopefully we get used to it and it gets faster because 20 seconds just to pay is semi ridiculous lol

@Anonymous here I think that it was fast the old fashioned way, before debit cards and bar code scanners.  You prayed to get a good "Cash Register Lady".  If she was good, you could get checked out fast with her key-punching all the values manually.  I would pray that every can of soup had a price sticker our my entire day was shot.  It would take several minutes for "Ralph" to walk his slow @Anonymous back to aisle 10 and get the price for a can of chicken noodle.

If the star aligned, it would only take 15 minutes.....tops.  Now that was a good day.

And here when I read 'the old fashioned way' I thought you were going to talk about a knuckle buster:

Good new is I think Walmart is the only one.  I haven't ran into any others & I'm only using Venture right now.

Re: using the chip and signature feature

The past few days I've tried to use my amex ED and TE cards at Wal-Mart.  I've inserted my cards into the reader and they just sat there.  It never approved them. The screen came up "hit cancel on keypad to cancel". I stood for awhile, then finally hit cancelled. I then used my NFCU cash rewards with the chip, on one of  the transaction,  and that went pretty quick and transacted.  The other transaction I used my Wal-Mart MC , with the chip,  that went fast and processed.

Re: using the chip and signature feature

Used my chip and pin Diners Club Mc in Canada today.. Absolutely seamless. The waiter brought a terminal to the table, inserted the card and processed it rather quickly. Added the tip at time of transaction. Honestly I wish all the U.S. cards were chip and pin versus most of them being chip and signature... The U.S. is so far behind IMO.
