what is considered "eligible purchase" for amex?

what is considered "eligible purchase" for amex? I'm thinking about acquiring a gold prg and am curious to know if I can use it for all my daily expenses? Even my bills?

pretty much everything.

transactions that are not eligible for rewards are balance transfers, cash advances or cash equivalent transactions, interest and/or other fees. American Express also added in reloading and purchases of gift cards into their T&C recently. Haven't seen anyone complain about not getting their rewards on buying vanilla cards, though I don't think it's a good idea to be buying VRs using an Amex card, especially if the bluebird account is also registered to your SSN.

Enharu - Have you heard/read any cases, where BB has been shot down for VR?

I have same SSN for both BB and Amex accounts. But, I searched and was not able to find any issues with BB Yet!

Would a "cash equivalent transaction" also include the purchase of gold & silver bullion coins from eBay or precious-metals dealers ??

Could such purchases raise any red flags with AmEx or others? - or are they coded like any other product purchase ??

if you are buying from ebay you are paying with paypal so they don't see what you are buying and no purchases are not the same as punching cash out at the atm even if you are buying currency.

Well, it wouldn't be BB for VR, more the card being used to buy them with.  People have speculated that it is unwise to pay your Amex card with BB if you have been doing lots of Manufactured Spend.  Another suggested danger point it to load BB and withdraw to bank account on a regular basis.  But there haven't been clear examples of this.

However, recently a few reports of FR on the Blue Cash card as people ramp up.   Generally though this aren't purely related to VR, one person hadn't used his BC for three  years (hadn't used at all) and then started buying stuff at CVS.  (Total spend was under $3K, but was a big change), others doing multiples of the CL.

So, currently not a big scare to avoid Amex for MS, but that could easily change.

Thanks for the clarification. I feel it's too much time for me to check cash, from BB and deposit again in another bank and pay CC.

Will see, how long they let me in this game!

+1. If it's ebay it's fine.

if you are buying precious metals / coins from certain dealers, it will depend on their MCC code. Certain MCC codes may fall under cash equivalent transactions.
