Similar here. Amex BCE started at $2,000, but quickly rose via those great 61 day SP CLIs. A year later with no big change in my CRs or income Amex TE started with a (for me) jaw dropping $11,200, the highest starting limit I've ever been given, but TE won't give me a CLI even when I only ask for a couple of thousand.

While some people might think that for them a $5,000 starting Amex CL is the minimum "good" CL, with Amex's huge potential CLIs it's not any big deal where you start. It's where you can go.

I am sure that this question is kinda pointless since different profiles will require different limit to be considered nice.. maybe i just particularly wanted to know with my profile.. lol

Maybe you folks can share some opinions?

Not a lot in my case.

Started with 1k BCE 13 months ago. For first 5 months, had no idea about 3X CLIs. For next 7 months, couldn't manage a CLI (not great CR). Towards the end of the 10th month, AMEX took pity and made it 2k. A month later, I tried the 3X and it went to 6k.

Unless the block photos in your sig provide the details (I'm guessing they're just card photos) it would help to know what your profile is like.  That said, even without that info I wouldn't be of much help.  I can only provide my experience.

Oh uhh.. i didn't mention my profile because I guess most people would not want to see me writing a whole bunch here.. so i didn't

my profile is very short AAoA, before this mini app (upromise, freedom, BCE), my AAoA is about 10 -11 months.. oldest account is boa 1-2-3 card opened in early march 2013. Ex 741 fico (on the date i apped Freedom) TU 745 last month from discover.. not sure about EQ.. income is about 70000, no baddies.. low utility. (usually within 10% of a card that carries balance.. and sometimes 2-3 cards carry balances) most of the time, i paid in full even before the statement cut.

mmmm.. what else should i provide? would that be sufficient for my profile?

Everyones credit profile is different hence the limits.  I am curious to know what you'd like Amex to give you as a starting limit based on your credit profile..

Anything $5,000 and over is decent.

oh really.. i thought that they gave at least 5000 to most people just like chase freedom.. usually the starting limit wouldn't be too low...

I have been reading from this site for a good while and I would not agree that Chase Freedom starts most people at 5k.  Yes, it depends on the file.  I started earlier in my rebuild with Chase in March of 2013 and my CL was 2k.  Since, 2 SPs to 5k on the Freedom.  I just got my Amex BCE at the start of this month and I received a 5k CL.

Re: what limit is considered nice for amex as a starter?

Eh, I'm of the opinion that even starting with $1 or $2k is a good starter, simply because of their generous 3x CLI policy.  I started with $2k in Jan '13. After 61 days moved to $6k.  A few months later they gave an auto-CLI to $7k.  2-3 months later I tried again for a 3x, ended up with $3k for a $10k credit line.  This past April they invited me to increase my limit by another $2k to $12k.  As long as the rest of your reports with other lenders look good when they SP you, and you maintain good payment history, Amex will definitely grow with you Smiley Happy

800+ across all three (via FAKOs) has been achieved! Current goal - Get down to 6 cards in total - sitting with 8 currently.

mine was 5500

have 4 inquiries on EX which they pulled

3 of them were older a year, 1 of them was about 6 months before..

with 4 new accounts opened in the last year at the point when i submit the app. One of them probably just hit a year or about to.. and the other three were in May and June this year.. so one of them was not even 6 months yet..

5500 is a great starting limit.  One thing I know is if you apply for another Amex card, you 2nd starting limit is higher.  Unless other people have been given other wise.

Re: what limit is considered nice for amex as a starter?

My first AmEx started at $5,500 and went to $13,900 (asked for $15k) via 61 day cli but my 2nd card started out at only $2,000.

I'm planning on switching my PRG into an ED in January before the AF hits, so I'll hopefully do well for a "starter" (first Amex revolver despite my 6+ years of credit)
