Probably because WAMU won't budge on their Providian accounts, as I've learned through bitter experience...they had me at (are you ready?) 29.99% even though I've never ever been late and rarely carried a balance. I couldn't afford to, at that rate!! Finally after I called them for the umpteenth time and had a mini-meltdown on the phone, they lowered it to a whopping 19.99. My scores were around 720 - 730 at the time. It has been sockdrawered ever since.

Re: If WAMU goes bankrupt,...

WaMu won't go bankrupt...it's deposits (well, up to $100k per ind.) are covered by FDIC insurance, and they don't let those kind of banks/S&Ls go BK. Therefore, it will, at the very least, get taken over by the Fed and then sold. It's too big to let fail...unlike Lehman. More than likely, someone's going to buy them or "merge" with them soon. *cough* Chase *cough* Smiley Happy

I'm more worried about my Pfico! Smiley Wink

Re: If WAMU goes bankrupt,...

WaMu has 50% more than the minimum required capital. They can make it another year and still hemorrhage $3 billion per quarter. They are unlikely to get taken over or shut down by the FDIC.
