401k help

Like many others I was not taught about money, credit, etc. and I've had to learn a lot on my own.  A credit counselor turned me on to this message board and it has been an amazing tool.  I'm  hoping that I can getting some good feedback concerning this situation:   I gained a 401k with a company I no longer work for.  I worked several years for the company and I am vested(I have full rights to all of the money).  However, I left the money in the 401k account and  haven't done anything with it.  I didn't roll it over to another employer because I didn't stay with the next company long enough to become 401k eligible and currently, I'm not working.  So, you have my situation, now these are my questions:  since I no longer work for the company I earned the 401k with, does the money in the account continue to grow minus the employer's and my contribution or does it remain stagnant because there is no contribution activity from myself or my previous employer?  If the money continues to grow what factors do I use to determine if I keep it with the old company or invest in an IRA (which based on what I know, is the only other option)?  If it doesn't continue to grow what are the best IRA or retirement investment options?

Re: 401k help

I would open an ROTH IRA either with your bank or a reputible firm- and roll it over.

The $ is moving up and down with the changes of the market.

Re: 401k help

Roll it over into your own personbal IRA, either yourself or via a good solid financial advisor
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid
