I closed on my first home a couple weeks ago. I needed internet, so I attempted to sign up for a u verse account with att online. It came back saying that I needed to call customer service. Since I could not at the time, I didn't. A couple days later I get a notice in the mail stating that due to my low experian credit score I would have to pay a deposit in order for them to give me service. My experian score is a 675. Is that really not good enough for them?? I have not had any overdue cable/phone/internet accounts.
One thing I will ask is where did you get your score? No one has been able to buy their own Experian FICO score since February of 2009. Creditors can pull Experian and also there is a CU (PSECU) in Pennsylvania that supplies that information to it's members only.
If you got this directly from the EX website this is not an EX FICO score. It's called a "PLUS" score and is not used by any lender.
From a BK years ago to:
EX - 3/11 pulled by lender- 835, EQ - 2/11-816, TU - 2/11-782

I'm sorry, I meant my Equifax score. I got my Equifax score off of MyFICO.
Good to know. At least the score is accurate.

The issue is that for ultilites companies, when you have a lower score, they want a deposit for equipment that they are giving you. Sure, they charge you monthly to rent the equipment, but if they deem your score too low, they want the money upfront should you not return your equipment.
Usually when you end your service they should give you back your money, it its really just a "deposit."
