@Cowboys4Life wrote:When I did AZEO a few years ago I made sure to not have any monthly subscription or autopay charges going to Cap1 cards. Back then I couldn't figure it out and finally caught on to their scheme. Cap1 will hold a statement if they know a charge is pending or an recurring monthly charge will hit. I have no issues with me USB or Discover cards with this as their statements drop like clock work for me but more than once I have noticed Cap1 delaying dropping a statement until a charge posts so that I have a balance. They do not like zero balance accounts at all very much preferring those who generate interest.
I have had a hunch that American Express does that too.
@SouthJamaica It's maddening!
That's why I don't bother with AZEO unless I would be preparing for a loan, not worth all the worriness lol
@SouthJamaica wrote:Yes they make it difficult to maintain zero balances. In my experience the only way to get them to report at zero is to push payments from other sources sufficient to cover any possible new charges.
This works well. Additionally, you can also push more than your anticipated payment. In other words...those recurring $5, $15, $X charges...push higher amounts and most banks will sit with the credit balance about 90 days but if you truly want to get to AZEO for a time, leave credit balances on the cards to be erroded by those recurring fees. They will report a ZERO balance when it statements, despite a credit balance. Just make sure you keep track of those balances so you can replenish or re-push when necessary

Day before close-
CapOne QS: "Your balance is $0."
That night-
Amazon: "Here's your monthly Prime charge!"
CapOne QS: *immediately closes with $6 statement balance*
Me: "😫"
Next card, day before close-
CapOne Plat: "Your balance is $0."
That night-
Apple, busting in like Terry Crews: "Surprise mother trucker! Here's a charge for that free trial monthly subscription you forgot to cancel!"
CapOne Plat: *immediately closes with $10 statement balance*
Me: "😫"
Next card, day before close-
Disco: "Your balance due is $0."
That night-
Netflix enters the chat: "LOL!"
Disco: *immediately closes with $15 statement balance*
Me: "😫"
Dammit.
Lol. You are hilariously spicy; I dig it.
Had a rude-ish discovery myself after my 2nd month with my U.S. Bank Cash+. Didn't know at the time that they report whatever your balance is on the card at the end of the month; and not your statement balance.
Let my tiny netflix charge post for when the statement cut 8 days before the end of the month, but just in time for it to be captured on the last day, "Verizon enters the chat" and drops my 3 line / cell phone plan bill that bestows upon me a utilization spike thanks to the exclusive $500 Club that I'm apart of. 😂
Jumped on to modify my payment due date with them immediately after that to eliminate the problem, ha.
Better luck for you, though, next month!
@cashorcharge @SouthJamaica
I will definitely try this! Thank you both!

@Cowboys4Life @MissLiz I've got 4 cards crom Capital One and I've never had that experience where they held the statement when I was aiming to keep it at zero for AZEO (I no longer care do to AZEO, it's not worth it to me unless I'm applying for new credit). I have experienced Capital One posting AFs the evening before the statement cuts so that it'll ensure you have a statement balance. My VX wasn't showing my AF renewal and then it popped up about 10pm (I had been logged in so I saw it as it happened) on the night before my statement cut. I have also noticed that Discover and Amex will not necessarily hold a statement, but they will go from pending to posted faster when it's a transaction made on the final day of the statement period. Transactions that might take a 2-3 days to post normally will quickly post and make the statement.
