Account re-aged after sending DV letter

Hello all....although I have been lurking around here for a while...this is my first post.

I have received great help from this forum....I sent a DV letter to a co account....I never received a response.... instead, today I got an alert that they have added the same account as a new collection account....I am very upset about this....I sent them the letter for validation of debt instead they re-age the account.

My credit is finally getting better and they they do this...I don't think this is fair.

Please advise on what to do next....thank you.

Re: Account re-aged after sending DV letter

To whom did you send the validation? You said a CO account. Was it a CA or OC? Can't DV an OC, they don't have to respond to it. Curious.

Re: Account re-aged after sending DV letter

Actually...I sent it to both...I just got in contact with OC and they claim they never received letter which I think they're lying cause they said the only reason they re-aged account was because of validation request.  Should I resend a DV letter to OC...will this lower my credit score?

Thanks so much for your response.

Correction....the letter that I sent was a PFD letter...I dont know if that makes a difference.

Re: Account re-aged after sending DV letter

Naturale, again, you don't send an OC a DV, those are for CAs. You can send the OC an OC Letter (thanks Lady Scarlet). Who is reporting you anyway? Both?

This is what the OC letter would look like. Make changes for your situation.

To Whom It May Concern:

I recently pulled my credit report from Experian, Equifax and TransUnion and noticed this account was listed on each of my reports as a collection I immediately disputed this information with Experian, Equifax and TransUnion and the results of the investigation came back as "verified".

Since I have disputed the account with the credit bureaus, and you have verified them, I would like to see what sort of records you have for this alleged account. Under the new FACTA laws, you are required to conduct an investigation on this account, and I am now requesting it.

In order to clear up this matter, I would like to see:

Complete account history, including, all statements, records of all activity, payments, collection attempts, and any charges added for collection activity; In short, any and all documentation pertaining to this account

If you don't respond with the results of the investigation (as is required per the FCRA), I will assume you have no documentation and therefore you were negligent in providing the credit bureaus with accurate information. At this point, you would also be in violation of the FCRA merely for not responding within the 30-day period.

Re: Account re-aged after sending DV letter

Yeah a PFD is different than a DV. Why do you think they re-aged the account? And who put it back on your CR? The OC or CA?

Re: Account re-aged after sending DV letter

Today I received an alert that a new collection account has been added...it's dated 03/02/2008...the original date was in 2004 and it was done by the CA....is it legal to list the same account with a new date.  I don't mind paying the account it's only $121....I didnt know of the debt until I recently pulled my credit report....I was just hoping to get it deleted from my credit report.

When I first called the CA they stated that they didn't have a good address for me...that all attempt to collect debt was returned to them.

Should I pay it or keep fighting it....thanks so much for your response.

Re: Account re-aged after sending DV letter

Doesn't sound like the new date is "re-aging" a CA has a section that they can continue to update, but they can't change the DOFD. Send a PFD (CMRR) to the CA, now that you know they have the account and placed it on your CR. If they call you after they receive it, be sure to get it in writing if they agree to PFD.

One thing to remember that the DOFD isn't usually listed on your CR online, you can find it. Like on EXP they list it if you go to dispute online with them. I know there are ways to see it with other CRA. I saw my EQ ones when I pulled my CR with them online, as in paid for it. I saw my TU one on the hard copy of my CR, someone told me if you dispute with them online you'll see it. I haven't needed to do that, so I can't confirm.

Re: Account re-aged after sending DV letter

Thank you Braznyc and ByrdMan for your response...I will send PFD letter and see what happens...I don't mind paying...but I rather they delete.

Another question....was there to be a drop on Fico score....would it had happened as soon as negative showed up...cause so far it hasn't, and also....is this something American Express would not like...I just recently obtained one of their cards.
