Yup, even at same address one of my AUs doesn't have any utilization boost from my card

@Anonymous How do you know?

Hello, I'm looking for some insight on why my average age of accounts dropped.

I was recently added on as an authorized user on a $15k limit Amex, opened in 2007 so 13 y/o.

Credit Karma is showing the age of this account as "<1 month" old, and saying that the date opened is "Unknown"

Does it take a few statement cycles for this age/info to update?

Thanks in advance!

I am pretty sure that when you are added as a Amex AU, you do not get the age of account added.

I am pretty sure it starts as a new account on your file.

I could be wrong.

That's exactly what it looks like. I should have done my research before being added to an Amex, lol. Oh well. It set me back a few months on the average age, but I'm hoping the point gain from lowering my overall utilization will be worth it. Thanks again!

One thought on lowering overall Utilization by being an AU, Most times when you apply for Credit,

They discount any AU cards.

Also algorithms are very sophisticated these days to Un-Mask AU Utilization. ALL JMO

Good to know! Thank you. FICO mortgage scores too? I'm at about 4% utilization with the AU card, 8% without. I'll keep chipping away at the last few percent and just ignore the extra AU amount then!

@Anonymous AU cards count full monty on mortgage scores, its version 8 and forward where they may be excluded by the antiabuse-algorithm.

With that said, lenders know AUs artificially inflate score and Im sure their internal scoring systems could be designed to exclude them. So could ficos, but when they tried to do just that, what happened?

They were sued and reversed course quick-like. So my question is, how do mortgage lenders get away with it? And how do they exclude them? They can't alter the CR data, they can't make fico filter it and rescore, so is it their internal scores that filter it? And if so, how does it escape the scrutiny fico could not?

Just for historical reference, Amex used to backdate AUs. I added my daughter as an AU to my Gold about 15 years ago, since the card was 11 years old at the time, it shows 26 years old on her account, which is almost as old as she is. I'm not sure when they stopped backdating new AUs, but it has been at least a couple of years.

Scores: March 21 FICO 8: EX 810, TU 808, EQ 813
AoOA: closed: 40 years, open: 30 years; AAoA: 14 years
Amex Gold, Amex Blue, Amex ED, Amex Delta Blue, Amex Hilton Surpass, BoA Platinum Plus, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Amazon, Chase CSP, Chase United Explorer, Citi AA, Sync Lowes, total CL 203k
