Adding Spouse to Mortgage

My current scores are from all three bureaus are very close to 670 (Quite an improvement from the 580s about 4 months ago....   I have 2 credit card accounts and an auto loan currently open.

I am getting married in a month, and she already owns a home, financed by Countrywide.  We plan on buying a bigger house in a year.  Should we look to add me to the Mortgage?  Would they be willing to do that?

I would try... the additonal income and the fact that she already has a mortgage will only help you.

Re: Adding Spouse to Mortgage

It should help with types of credit, and another perfect TL (though only 2 years) cant hurt.  I don't think it would go down.

Congrats on improving your scores, and more importantly on your upcoming nuptials!

Now for some serious business.  If you are added to the mortgage, get yourself added to the title. Of course I wish you all the best in your marriage, but if all goes south, you don't want to be left jointly liable for an asset that you don't own.  Just MHO.

Re: Adding Spouse to Mortgage

Roger that, she already mentioned she wants to add me to the title.  If we add me to the mortgage I'm betting that it will help my score some.
thanks for well wishes both nuptials and score.   Smiley Happy

Re: Adding Spouse to Mortgage

on the same issue, can I be added to my wife's car loan?     I am paying half of it anyway but we left my name off it because of my credit history,   can we go back and add my name to the loan and still keep the same financing?

Sorry - I disagree here.

I would just wait til next year when you move.
Too much headache, too many problems if something were to get messed up.

Re: Adding Spouse to Mortgage

IMO, I would leave it alone.  You're not married yet and anything can happen between sunrise and sunset.  Your scores have vastly improved and with her history you shouldn't have any problem applying and getting a mortgage together in the future.

Re: Adding Spouse to Mortgage

Why bother if you are going to be shopping for a new house?  Wouldn't adding your name to the loan require a refi?  Yeah, and don't add your name to the loan unless it is also on the title.
