I have a one year credit history. My father with spotless credit has offered to make me an authorized user on a 20 year card of his.

Do I get a ding on my credit for obtaining new credit while at the same time a boost for a longer credit history?

As an AU there should be no ding, you should just jump to a older history - depending on how many cards you have
