how do I challenge the permissible purposes? yeah they spoke with my wife about the account. can you explain a little more about the hard pull? They have already contacted me and keep saying time is of the essence and when I asked them about a time frame she said she couldn't tell me (meaning when they would report to CB's) very evasive and just saying I need to pay the whole thing. she asked me if any of the charges were mine and I told her that I could not acknowledge any charges without seeing expense reports. worse-I contacted my HR dept from old company yesterday and they promised to get back to me today and of course they didn't. Don't get me wrong-I know HR could care less about anything other than limiting their liability but the whole thing just disgusts me.What should I put in the FTC complaint? Thank you so much for the info!!!
First of all request, in writing, that they send you a debt verification letter. Yuo can do it mail return receipt or if you have a fax machine that has the return receipt feature, you can do it that wait. Rememebr to put at the bottom of the communication for that somthing along the lines of 'This facsimile return receipt constitues proof of delivery.' It is legal. They cannot do anything else until they present you with that debt verification. The asrticle I linked you to shows that these guys like to ignore things like this as well as certain other practices such as speaking with your wife. The permissable purposes is simply that they have no right to a hard inq on your credit file as your relatioship with other lenders is none of their business. Your inquiry was coded as a request for new credit for an installment loan. Did you apply for installment credit from these clowns? NO.Go to www.ftc.gov and file a complaint mentioning all of the things that they have done so far that falls under the practices you read in the article as well as the improper coding of that inquiry (often done to let your other creditors know you have a collection in the works). Send you debt validation. But most of all keep trying to contact your HR dept.
