I know that Amex provides a monthly EX FICO 8 score. Does Experian provide a score using the same scoring model?
There are only 3 factors that go into a FICO score. The bureau used (the same in your case), the scoring model (possibly the same) and the time at which those first 2 pieces of data were used to generate the score.
Time here is likely the constrait, so you're going to want to wait until you see that FICO score change with Amex. They typically update on or about the same day every month, so if they last updated on Dec 28th (for example) you could expect to see a new score for Jan 28th. From what I've seen, often the score will be presented 2-3 days after it is generated, suggesting they did their SP a couple of days earlier and just didn't update the score yet. My score this month updated on the 23rd, but the date the score was generated was the 20th.
Just sit tight a few days until you see your Amex score update on their site, then go for that CLI. Out of curiosity, what did you do to increase your score 50 points in 1 cycle? Typically this can only be accomplished by one of two things... the removal of negative information or a quite dramatic paydown in utilization. Either one will definitely help your CLI chances/result, so again waiting to see your score update on Amex is the right move here before submitting the CLI request.
Amex SP for FICO score may not be the same SP they use for 3X CLI either. There are data points that some folks have a new Amex FICO score but then were denied a CLI based on the old score.
Correct; Amex has not done a SP yet. However, Amex underwriting and the website/marketing people are different and because the website is updated with a new score does not mean that will be the score used by underwriting to evaluate you CLI application. I would suggest waiting for a few weeks after the website updates before asking for a CLI to make sure underwriting is using the latest scores. Alternatively, you can go to https://www262.americanexpress.com/eaol/welcome.do and read you application history. You may be able to determine from the status letters the exact date when Amex underwriting pulls your scores.
Forgot to mention but I've noticed my EX FICO 8 score on Amex's website is updated twice per month. the first update is on the 1st or 2nd of the month, and the second is on the 14th or 15th. (For January 2018 it was updated on the 1st and 14th) . I know from past app experiences that the score being displayed by the website since the 14th January will not be used by the underwriting department until early February. Can't really explain it but that the way they work.
