Authorized User

Hi All!

Before I am added as an Authorized User to a Home Depot account, I want to confirm that AUs in no way negatively impacts the Primary Account Holder. My understanding is that Citi is the issuer of the Home Depot Card I will be added on. I had a charged off account with them and wanted to make sure my negative history would not impact the primary user and that I would not be denied.

Has anyone ever heard of an AU being denied? Also, any DPs about how long it takes for the Home Depot AU account to be added to your credit report?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Authorized User

I am an AU on a HD card. There was no impact to the primary. It took about 2 months to show up, if I remember right.

Re: Authorized User

Your charge off is not going to impact the primary card holder, now if the primary card holder decided to not pay and you remain AU on the card it could have an impact on you.

Thank you for your feedback. Ok. Regarding my charge off, I understand that my charge off will not impact the primary card holder. However, my concern is if it would impact me being able to be added as an Authorized User.

I have never heard of anyone having trouble being added as an AU because they had charge offs. The primary card owner is responsible for the debt, so they aren't extending any credit to you.  All AU means is that you get a card and can legally use it, it reports on your FICO and can help you a little bit but it isn't the same as being the primary card owner.
