Re: Authorized user without providing SSN?

While i agree with the above comments and do not suggest it, because trust really is a two way street. Citi was the only Lender I have that did not request SSN for an AU.

That said, if you're merley helping out a friend in a jam just give them the few Hundred in cash. At least if that person doesn't pay you back you're not out much, versus them having acces to a CC account in your name and are repsonsible for.

This. That "friend" could run up a debt and skip town....and you'd be on the hook if no social security was given for identity verification purposes.

They are on the hook anyway, an authorized user has no financial liability. Even if they could identify them, what could they do to them? They have no liability.

but I agree do not do it.

Re: Authorized user without providing SSN?

I agree with the others there are some red flags and I would not do it myself. If you decide to make your friend an authorized user you cannot not just allocate part of the credit limit to your friend.

Citi allows you to set a "monthly" limit for your authorized users I haven't tried to set in lower than $50. Limit resets each billing cycle.

I don't recall having to give SSN's for any of my AU's on Citi either 🤔

Re: Authorized user without providing SSN?

I never knew you could do that. I would be interested to know how the account reports on the authorized user's credit report such as the credit limit is it the amount you set or is the the full credit limit?

Re: Authorized user without providing SSN?

I would imagine it’s the full credit limit, that’s just an option that allows you to adjust settings, it’s a feature. I would check, but my authorized user is a minor that I use this feature on. I don’t know how to get to the report since they are not 18. And truthfully I haven’t even investigated it. At some point I will.

Re: Authorized user without providing SSN?

Synchrony does not require ssn. I recently added my daughter's boyfriend to both synch cards care credit and car care the cards were sent to me but it's only til he generate a score and is able to get his own card then I'm removing him.
