Average Credit Score for College Student

How accurate is the FICO Score on my Discover IT statement and what is the average credit score for someone age 18-20 who has been extended credit?

The score from Discover says I'm at 757.  I am wondering if this is considered a high score that is not common at my age or whether people start with a fairly high score like this until making a mistake with credit, because I want to apply to get an apartment.

I have AMEX BCE 7K (age 13 months), Discover IT 1.5K (age 18 months) , and AU on Discover with 12k.

Re: Average Credit Score for College Student

It is a true Fico score and 757 is amazing for anyone. Unfortunately lenders look at more than score they look at average age of accounts, utilization, etc. Unfortunately in your case for an apt age may have a play on getting approved. Good Luck I hope it works out!

Discover IT $17k / US Bank Ace (VSig) $13.5K / US Bank Cash+ (VSig) $13.5k
Sam's Mastercard $15k / Walmart Mastercard $10k / Blispay $7.5k PayPal Ex MC $10.8k
CareCredit 5k / Husq $5k / Cap1 QS $4.5k / Barclay Ring $5.35k / Citi DC (WMC) $12k
Gardening Date 7/01/16 / MyFico 08: EQ 801 / TU 777 / EX 771 / 06/08/17

I had around that score(~745) when I was 19-20 looking for an apartment. I informed the landlord of such and she told me I could submit for the credit check but with no actual income I would still need a guarantor.

Normally the apartments around these college towns know what they are doing and who their customers are and as such requre a guarantor.

Amex Green, Chase Freedom(7.5K), Nationwide Visa Signature(6K), Chase Sapphire Preferred(6k), Cap One VentureOne visa signature (5K) BoA Cash Rewards siggy (5K), BoA travel rewards visa siggy(5K) PayPal Extras Mastercard(5K), Capital One QuickSilver(2.25K) Newegg Preferred Account(2K), Citi Forward(3.4K), Dell Account(2K) Discover IT(2.4K), Chase Slate (1.5K) Citi Diamond Preferred ($800), BestBuy Mastercard ($1500),Bill-Me-Later(1.2K), ,Barclay Mastercard(2K). All scores are accurate but only for their own scoring model.  Discover provides a score based on TU data using the 08 model.  Any comparison to scores based on other CRA data or using any other scoring model (whether FICO or FAKO) will be inaccurate.  You can't rely on one scoring model to determine the score generated by an entirely different scoring model.  If the algorithms differ then you should expect the results to differ.

Student or not 757 is a good score.  Discover's score page includes a spectrum with different ranges an descriptions.  757 falls into the 740-799 bracket labeled as "Indication of a very dependable borrower".  You shouldn't have any problems with the credit check for an apartment.  Plenty of people with lower scores make it past the credit check.

That AU account is more than likely giving you a nice boost. However, lenders tend to ignore AU accounts.

Re: Average Credit Score for College Student

Student or not, you have a very good score. I just got into using credit cards within the last year and I'm at 750. I'm 20 a full time student and have a part time job.

Being responsible with payments and overall utilization will help you a lot. Some of my closest friends are mid 20s and don't have the slighest clue about their credit scores nor do they have a credit card. Be glad you're ahead of the curve!

Keep up the good job!
