Bankruptcy

After my divorce, I found it necessary to declare bankruptcy...that was 6 years ago.  I finally got up enough nerve to check my credit report and score.  It's not too bad, actually, but I would definitely like to improve it, and have already taken several steps to do so.  My credit report is showing several "bad debt/account written off" notations for accounts that were actually included in the bankruptcy.  Other accounts show "Included in bankruptcy".  Should I contact the credit bureau to have the ones that show as bad accounts changed to say "Included in bankruptcy", or does it not make any difference?  Will the ones that do not say "Included in bankruptcy" actually fall off my credit report sooner that the bankruptcy ones?

Vicki, I had the same problem and wrote many letters requesting the change, but everything failed.

I had a car loan with Citizen's Bank. I listed the loan in my BK (as I was required to do) but reaffirmed both my car and my house. Citizen's lists the loan as included in the BK even tho I never missed a payment and paid it off a year ago. I sent all three credit agencies AND Citizens copies of the 'paid in full' note from Citizens but they refused to remove the notice since it was officially included in my BK. For the record, my mortgage company, does not note the BK so it's not automatic.

Vicki to keep zombies form getting hold of the debt sometme down the road, I would reccommend getting them all IIB if they were indeed in your bankruptcy.  Once that's been updated.  Keep a copy of that report.  The CAs may not have record of it being included and can and will sell it to other collectors just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water.

As far as the reaffirm debts.  If they were included in BK, it should be noted but also noted reaffirmed.  I'm not sure what I did was legal, but the debts I didn't want included I never put on the paperwork and kept paying as normal.  That way I had no problem with that aspect.

I Filed bankruptcy in 2005 and I have a mortgage that i wanted to reaffirm, but my lawyer did it as
a retained property, but when i recieved my credit reports it showed under bankruptcy w a 0 balance
i have spoke w/the credit reporting agencies and told them this is a retained property and have sent
all info on this but when they investigate this though the mortgage company it comes back the same
under bk no change.  How can I get them to update payments and show this is as still opened.
